When I woke up this morning I had no idea my day was going to end up like the way it did. Life has a funny way of surprising us sometimes.
I was beyond tired and drenched in sweat with the sun burning back. I could feel the mussels in my legs and arms burning. The racket in my hand was getting heavier as the minutes tick by.
Let me introduce myself. My name is Sam Adams, I'm about 5'7 with blond wavy hair and blue eyes and you're probably guessing what I'm doing.
Well I'm playing tennis against, our schools rival, the number one player on their team. Cassey Williams.
Why did I say yes to this again? Oh yes I remember, because our number one player decided to get sick and our coach asked me to take her place. Don't get me wrong I love playing but we've been playing for an hour. The game kept going back and forth leaving us tied the entire time and I was getting frustrated. I don't think I can go on anymore. When I look to my right I see my friend, Eli, jumping up and down cheering for me. Right now I was envious of all his endless energy.I was so focused on the ball that she served that I didn't see someone rolling a ball on the court to me. The next thing I know I'm on the ground clutching my knee and breathing hard . I stepped on the ball and fell on my knee. I felt something snap and knew something was wrong.
I didn't feel the pain at first but when I realized what had happened I felt it. I couldn't get up and it felt like someone hit me with a hammer on my knee(multiple times). I closed my eyes trying to shut out the pain, but sadly it didn't work. I could hear footsteps running towards me and when I looked up I saw Coach and a medic running to me.
Any normal person in situation like this would only be thinking about the pain their experiencing but not me. No being the weirdo that I am all I could think about was that I lost the game. How sad.
~~~~~~~~
Something really was wrong. According to the doctor I had torn a ligament in my knee. Well that's just wonderful.
When I got home I was exhausted and the painkillers they gave me helped a lot. All I wanted to do was sleep. I mean I could practically hear my bed calling for me.
***Admit it you have experienced it before******
Apparently the universe did not like me at all because the moment I stepped in the house my mother told me to go to the living room for a family meeting. When I got there I saw a man(probably in his forties) and a girl about my age sitting on one of the couches.
"Sam, there is something you need to know. " I turned to look at my mother when she sat on my dad's leather chair. She looked sad.
"Mom can't this wait until tomorrow. I'm tired and the pain in my knee is killing me. " Which is true because the painkillers started to wear off.
"I'm sorry it can't. This is important Sam so please just sit down and listen. " The seriousness in my mothers voice frightened me a little. My mother was the laid back one between my parents. I didn't say a word as I sat down and took a good look at the strangers sitting in front of me.My mother stood up and muttered something about needing coffee before we started.
The man had dark brown hair with a few grey hair here and there. He had emerald green colored eyes.
The girl looked almost like me but where she had black hair I had blond wavy hair. It was her eyes that told me that she was the man's daughter. They had the same green eyes.
"My name is Jonathan Larking and this is my daughter, Laura. You're probably wondering what we are doing here."He said looking me in the eye.
Yeah that's exactly what I was thinking.. ....... Not. I was thinking how soft my bed was.My mother started to talk with so much sadness in her voice.
"Sam as much as it hurts me to say this.- she paused takings deep breath- Sam, you're adopted."
I never thought it was possible but with those few words my entire world was turned upside down. With the pain in my knee forgotten I stood up and put my hands on my hips.
"Adopted!? So you're telling me that my entire life was a lie." Anger started to boil inside me as I snapped at them."We did it to protect you. Your life was in danger. We did it because we love you. " Johnathan said while standing up to walk towards me. I held up my hand to stop him from taking another step. So he's my real father a presume.
"If you loved me you would've done everything to keep me with you but instead you gave me up. That's real love alright."
I can't believe this. Everything I knew was a lie.
I could see my mother wanted to say something but I walked away before she could. I walked to my room and locked my door so they won't be able to come in.
And just as I thought my day couldn't get worse life throws this at me. To be honest the surprises life throws at us, well let's just say I hate surprises.
The moment I lied my head on the pillow I fell asleep.
