"Ella? It's three am."
"I know, I know. Did I wake you up?"
"I want to say yes, but since you already know I'm a failure: no, I was actually finishing an assignment for school."
"What a great student you are, Finn. And that on the second week."
"I sure am. Anyway, why did you call?"
"Well, I just came back from this party and-"
"You're not drunk, are you?"
"Do I sound drunk?"
"No. Just making sure. Dealing with you drunk once was more than enough. Go on."
"I was trying, yeah. So I got back home and it suddenly hit me. It's your birthday today!"
"Eh, El, I don't want to be the reason for your disappointment, but it's not."
"It so is! I've been counting down to this for like a month."
"It's the twelfth today. My birthday is on September thirteen. Trust me, I should know."
"Stop lying to me, Finn. It's not funny."
"I swear I'm not lying. My birthday is tomorrow. So no matter how much I enjoy your enthusiasm, I'm gonna have to disappoint you."
"This is a joke, right?"
"I wish it was."
"Oh my god. Have I really got your birthday wrong all this time? I was so sure. I've got it marked on my calendar and all that stuff."
"Even though that's weirdly cute, it's still wrong."
"This is so embarrassing."
"..."
"Wait. Why are you laughing? Finn Colton, please, for the love of god, tell me this wasn't some kind of prank."
"Well... I got you good, didn't I?"
"I'm hanging up, I swear. I just can't with you."
"Don't, please."
"Give me one good reason why I shouldn't."
"It is my birthday, you know? You can't possibly hang up on me on my birthday?"
"You're impossible. I was even going to sing for you."
"Maybe it's better that you didn't."
"Hey! I heard that."
"Good. You were meant to."
"Ughh. Happy birthday to you, I guess."
"Thanks, very spontaneous."
"I'm too tired for this. I'll call you again after I've got some sleep, okay?"
"Alright. Sweet dreams, El."
"Promise me you'll go to sleep soon too?"
"I promise."
"Good night, Finn. Love you."
"Love you too."
A/N
I can't believe we've actually made it to 50k reads! For me this feels like a huge thing. This story was always just for fun, something short and sweet to write between other projects. I fell in love with writing about Ella & Finn and I'm so glad I get to share it with you.
It's been almost three years since I first started posting this story and it's incredible to see that it still gets reads. That new people keep finding it and that it keeps growing. (It somehow got to #1 in short story yesterday and it's suddenly exploding again. It literally got like 2k reads overnight, it's insane!)
To everyone who took the time to read this story, from the bottom of my heart, thank you. For everyone who adds it to reading lists, who votes on chapters, who leaves comments, thank you, thank you, thank you!
This little bonus chapter is for all of you. (And a little for me too, cause I couldn't say goodbye to Ella & Finn just yet.)
