I froze. Didn’t spoke, didn’t breathe. A few seconds more then I’ll be dead. Of course I was still breathing. It’s just that my world stopped. Then, his face was close to mine.
Closer..
Then closer..
Then—
“Ellaine! Wake up! You’re a high schooler yet you are still a slacker. You’ll be late!” My mom said in a raised tone. When I looked at my clock, oh my goodness it’s 6:40 already! I’m going to be late!
For 10 minutes, I took a bath, ate, dressed myself, and arranged my bag. After those, I took my bike and I’m on my way to school. Biking? Yes, I’m biking my way to school. It takes me only 5 minutes. Oh wait, I’m going to introduce myself. I’m Ellaine Collins. 15 years old. Oh, and about Richard and Jon? Well, Jon, he’s on another country now. He wants to be with his dad. And, Richard, well, he’s only my neighbor now. He just walks his way to school.
As I parked my bike, someone pushed me in the back.
“Hey Ellaine! I missed you!” Even though the weekends are the only days we could not see each other.
“Yeah, yeah. I missed you too! Let’s go to class together?”
“Why not. (giggles)”
You know her? Haha, of course not, because I haven’t introduced her yet. She’s Emma, Emma Wellington. She’s the twin of Richard. Well, Emma is only a month older than Richard. And I’m a month younger than Richard. Emma and I are on the same class. Richard’s school? He’s on the opposite university we’re in, the rival of this university. The Midway University is the university I’m in. The Boscon University, is where Richard’s in. His school is an all-boys school, that’s why we’re not on the same university. Midway University is an all-girls school.
“Are we on time?”
“I guess so.. I guess not.” Emma said, as we see no people on the hallway, and teachers were on their rooms teaching on their students.
2-B.
“Wow, our room’s throwing a party. Why only ours?” I asked, really, confused. All students were standing, decorating something.
As we entered..
“What’s the big mess?” Emma asked.
“Duh, it’s Ms. Slinger’s special day! That’s why she’s late.”
Oh, I remember. Because our class adviser’s always punctual. After decorating, Ms. Slinger came in.
“HAPPY BIRTHDAY MS. SLINGER!” Everyone else shouted.
“Thank you everyone. But, before that, I have an announcement to make.”
“Is it good news, or bad?” Stacey asked, my best friend.
“I don’t know if it’s bad or good, but it is for the benefit of our school. Raise your hand if you’re ready.” Everyone raised their hands.
“Okay, so, we would be joining forces with another university. Boscon University accepted the offer of joining our university. It is because last night, we saw a lot of girls kissing their girlfriends in public, and we should prevent that. It would make our university go to waste. We don’t want our images to break. That’s all I wanted to say.”
Yes! Richard’s with us now!
“But, when?” I asked.
“It would be done after this school year.”
I would be leaving for Australia next year. Just like Jon, I would be meeting my father. Sadly I won’t be here in New York for about 6 years.
The bell rang.
“Okay, class, recess time! Let’s eat what you prepared for me. Of course I couldn’t eat all these by myself.”
We ate, then I asked Emma,
“Emma, are you alright with the plan that your twin will be with you the next school year?”
“Of course! With you and him, we would be happy bonding with each other. Remember? You’re the best of friends before.”
“That was before, Emma. And I thought you fought with him.”
“Well, I couldn’t stand our situation, so I apologized to him two days ago.”
“Um, What I was going to tell you is that, I’m leaving for Australia for the next school year.”
“Austra—What?! I thought we’re going to be classmates these whole 4 years? Can you cancel it?”
“N-No, if I haven’t find any significant reason to stay here, I will go there to work part-time with my dad.”
Actually, I was waiting for Richard to say that. I forgot to tell you, I am admiring Richard Wellington for 8 years. That’s why me and Emma are always together. Stacey? She’s with her boyfriend every after dismissal. Then they call each other during break time. That’s why we’re only talking during classes. Sadly, me and Richard has no reason to talk to each other.
“What kind of significant reason? Say it then I’ll help you for you to stay here.”
“It’s something personal.. and I need to find it for myself only.”
“My goodness, please, find it already!”
“(Giggles) Emma, you’re so silly. I’ll find it, I swear.”
I need a significant reason. Love.
Getting aside, after lessons, we were dismissed and we greeted Ms. Slinger once again a happy birthday.
Emma’s POV
Oh-my-goodness. Ellaine’s leaving. I liked her since she was with Richard when they were still 5. She was good to Richard. Richard liked her as I do, he was even telling me he was going to marry her. But, silly, he was too young for saying that. I don’t know if he would do that when it is time. When Ellaine got home, I walked to my home. We are neighbors, of course I’d walk.
Then I see my brother Richard. I looked at him sadly.
“Hey Emma. What’s with the long face?”
“Ellaine’s leaving next year.”
“Well? We should be happy for her, she would be transferring in a nice place.”
What a brother. That’s why I hate him. Since Ellaine stopped communicating with Richard, he’s like that.
“Dumbass. Have you forgotten that she’s your best friend since you were 5?”
“I remember. But it doesn’t mean I’ll always care for her. I’m not her boyfriend.”
“You’re so rude! Have manners! Me and mom never taught you that!”
He just walked away. I love you brother, really. I hope that Ellaine would not get mad at Richard when she hears this.
