Y/N:

I was startled out of my book by the stomping footsteps that invaded the vast mansion that I was staying in.

Due to the war in England, my parents sent me to the countryside with my great-uncle. He was kind when I spoke to him, but Mrs. Macready, his maid, was an entirely different story.

"Y/N!" Mrs. Macready's voice boomed. Her raspy, old voice made me jump as I remembered we had guests coming.

I quickly hopped out of bed and straightened my duvet.

I sighed before smoothing my dress and jogging downstairs.

I slowed once I heard Macready's voice, "Professor Kirke is only accustomed to one child in this house, and she is well-behaved. She stays in her room and reads books all day," Mrs. Macready states.

I sat at the top of the stairs and observed the four children piling in the doors. I expected to be older than them, but half looked younger, and the other half were older.

They began to walk up the stairs toward me, "And as such, there are a few rules we need to follow," Macready continued, and I rolled my eyes at the spiel she gave me when I first came, "There will be no shoutin'. Or runnin'," She led them up the stairs, "No improper use of the dumbwaiter," I noticed one of the kids reaching out to touch the head on the wall, "NO touchin' of the historical artifacts!" Macready scolded, and the girl quickly retracted her hand, "And above all, there shall be no disturbin' of the professor-" She cut herself off with a yelp as she spotted me at the top of the stairs.

Macready gave me a scolding look as if I had done something wrong. She reached past my face and adjusted the ponytail my hair was in. I gave her a look, confused as to why she was messing with my hair.

She turned around with a smile, "Children, this is Y/N L/N, the Professor's great niece." Mrs. Macready said as she touched my shoulder. I shuddered at her cold hand, "Introduce yourselves. I have work to do," I made eye contact with the younger girl and playfully rolled my eyes, earning giggles from the little girl.

I scanned the four of the children. Two boys and two girls.

My eyes dragged back to the youngest girl. She had short brown hair, happy blue eyes, and an adorable smile that filled the gloomy room. I smiled at her, hoping we would become the best of friends.

Next was the oldest, who towered over her, protecting his little sister. His neatly styled blonde hair complimented his blue eyes, which shined like his sister's. Next to him was his other sister, and I was immediately stunned at her beauty; she had dark brown hair and the same sparkling blue eyes as her siblings.

The last sibling caught my attention, the younger brother, who looked about my age. He had the same hair color as his older sister. Instead of blue eyes like the rest of his siblings, he had deep, brown eyes. His eyes entranced me; they reminded me of a cup of hot chocolate on a cold winter day and dark autumn leaves on a calm day. His eyes shined differently than his siblings. They were warm like a fire burning on cedarwood.

I was snapped out of my trance when Mrs. Macready's cold hand left my shoulder, and I realized I had been staring at the brown-eyed boy for too long, as he was also staring at me.

The youngest bravely walked up to me and stuck out her hand, "I'm Lucy Pevensie," She smiled, and I returned it as I shook her hand. She stepped beside me, already pinned at my hip, as she watched her siblings introduce themselves.

The oldest approached me and shook my hand, "Peter," He said with a slight smile.

"Nice to meet you," I returned the firm handshake.

The second oldest sister shook my hand after her brother, "I'm Susan," She said, "A pleasure to meet you," She smiled and stepped out of the way for the last sibling.

Looking at him, I noticed he was still staring at me, "Edmund," Peter scolded, "Introduce yourself."

Edmund approached me, now with a scowl, and softly shook my hand, "Edmund," He mumbled. I half-expected him to be the nicest, but my smile faded as I saw his nature.

When he looked up at me, I smiled sincerely and expected to pull out of his grip, but I got lost in his eyes again.

I heard Lucy giggle, "Um," I started, snapping us both out of our trance. His warm hand that lingered with mine was immediately snatched out, "I'll show you all up to your room," I smiled and walked up to the room Mrs. Macready had prepared for them, trying to forget what had just happened.

As we walked up, I walked up first and heard giggles and chuckles behind me. I turned around to wait for them at the top of the steps, watching them tease their little brother. I giggled along with the siblings, watching Edmund's scowl grow. I smiled at him.

I led them to a door nearby, "I'll let you all settle in," I said as I held open the door. When I tried to close it, I felt someone grab my hand. I turned around to see little Lucy giving me puppy dog eyes.

"Will you stay and play with me?" She asked. I bit my bottom lip and slowly bent down to her level.

I pushed a loose strand of her hair behind her ear, "I'll let you settle in first, and come back to play later," She smiled widely, her slightly crooked teeth making her face even more adorable. Her contagious smile got to me, and I stood and gently closed the door.

I glanced at the nearby grandfather clock and decided I would have to play with Lucy tomorrow because of the lateness of the night. I sighed, wishing it wasn't so late, and walked across the hall to my room.

I looked back briefly, glancing at their door and feeling glad it was close to my room. My lips parted as I heard their door click. Edmund peeked his head through the crack as he looked around. His eyes locked with mine after a few seconds.

His eyes widened, and his face flushed. I smiled at him, giggling softly at his reaction before entering my room and closing the door.

I changed into my nightgown and robe before sitting on my bed to read a book.

EDMUND:

I stared at the ceiling as I thought about the events that played out today. I tuned out the radio Peter was listening to and tuned into my thoughts.

The girl that showed us around, Y/N, would not leave my head. Since I met her, her soft gaze wouldn't leave my thoughts.

She had lovely eyes; they sparkled when she smiled, and her eyelashes were beautiful; well, everything about her was beautiful. But I wanted to keep those feelings tucked away; it would make me look soft. She would never like someone like me anyway.

I tapped back into reality when I heard Susan speaking to Lucy, "Wars don't last forever, Lucy. We'll be home soon."

I exited the window seat across the room and walked up to Lucy's bed, "Yeah, if home is still there," I spat out.

Susan scoffed, "Isn't it time you were in bed?" She fired back.

"Yes, mum!"

"Ed!" Peter scolded. I sighed, looking at my feet, "You saw outside," He continued, talking to Lucy, "This place is huge. We can do whatever we want here. Tomorrow's going to be great. Really."

Peter approached me and whispered, "You need to start being nicer to your sister. She wants to be home, just like the rest of us."

I rolled my eyes, tired of my brother acting like my dad.

Peter took a deep breath, "Now, what went on with you and Y/N?" I felt my face heat up and opened my mouth, but no words came out. Peter raised an eyebrow with a smirk, but it quickly faded, "Get to bed, Ed," I looked up at him, glad he had dropped the topic.

I lay in my bed, staring at the ceiling again.
