"I hold enough, and what I lack-"

"Will only take time, yes. But do you honestly think time is something you have?"

"So long as he remains in the dark, I have more than I will ever need."

"I do hope that is you being optimistic in your chances and not underestimating his abilities."

_____

A blissful morning following a full night of uninterrupted rest to assure preparedness for the day to come. No dedicated student could ask for more. Unfortunately, this seemed incredibly out of reach for Weiss.

"RISE AND SHINE, HUNTRESSES!!!" shouted Ruby from the center of the dorm. Weiss flopped out of her mattress.

"What is WRONG with you!?" Weiss demanded as she reoriented herself.

"As your team leader, I have decided it would be beneficial for all of us to wake up earlier to make a good impression on Sharp and Linda," she explained proudly with fists on her hips.

"You mean a good impression on our scouts?" Blake rubbed the back of her head.

"I mean our scouts, yes," Ruby accepted the correction but maintained her posture.

"Ruby, it's only five minutes earlier than we normally wake up," Yang said from over her shoulder, maintaining her status as the sole student still in her bunk.

"And we don't have class this morning, you boob!" Weiss brushed herself off and Ruby snickered. Weiss slapped the back of her head and yelled, "It's a holiday!"

"Oh..."

"And why are you waking me up?" Yang's moping bounced against the wall. "I didn't even get picked."

"Cheer up sis," Ruby tried to comfort her, but Weiss recognized the last thing their unselected teammate needed was coddling.

"Stop with the 'woe-is-me' routine, Yang," she snapped firmly. "We all heard them say there's more scouts on the way and all of the others that deserved it and didn't make it have already been listed. Besides, if Jaune of all people can qualify, there's no doubt in my mind you're getting one of those spots." Yang semi rolled over, a violet eye poking past her shoulder.

"You... really mean that?" she asked with a voice letting everyone know Weiss was the last one she expected to receive comfort from. Weiss scoffed and rolled her eyes before making for the door.

"For the record, I resent being called 'Ice Queen,'" she said and opened the dorm's entrance. "I can actually be quite caring, you know." A snicker from Ruby garnered a groan from Weiss and she stormed out of the room.

"But it's a holiday!" Ruby called after her.

"You already ruined my rest!"

"HEY!!!" Nora smashed her head through the dorm door. "Would you please shut up! Some people are trying to sleep."

"Nora, did you...?" Ren's muffled voice squirmed through the wall, followed by a simple sigh before a defeated, "Not again."

_____

A handful of scouts had convened in the cafeteria and taken various conventional and unconventional seating positions at a table nearest one of the windows. Ruby could faintly begin to make out any of their conversations as she drew closer.

"... and ice dust are the primary exports of the Schnee dust company," stated the blindfolded Sharp with his back to the other sniper opposite of him.
