"Attention! Attention, all!" You turn your head to see a face you haven't seen in a long time.

It was him. Oh no...

As you turn your head, giving your attention to the man standing beside the teacher in the middle of the cafeteria's floor, you're careful not to meet his eyes. You're afraid that if you do, he'll want to talk to you and try to get you... back. That wasn't happening on your watch. You internally gag at the thought that you had ever had any sort of feelings for this man, knowing just how badly he had hurt you before.

Your thoughts wander to a year ago when you two had met. He had found you in a small hallway that wasn't used, your head buried in your knees with your hands gripping your hair behind your head.

I was so dumb...

You remember him sitting beside you in silence, and you could feel his stare.

So ignorant...

You recall looking slightly up at him, questioning him silently as to why he was there. This had seemed to take him aback as he struggled to explain himself.

"I, uh, I s-saw you here... alone... and I uh... thought you might need a friend?" He had asked, and the surprise you felt was, as you remember it, foreign yet... comforting.

It was a mistake trusting him...

You had smiled slightly at his concern, a slight twinkle in your eyes. You uncurled from your position and propped your elbow on your knee, leaning back.

You chuckled slightly as you began to explain, "Well, I guess I do need a friend. I just..." you paused for a second, figuring out how to tell this man about what was happening,

"I guess I just... broke down. My grades are slipping and I..." You let out a shaky breath. "I can't afford to fail this year... or any year for that matter." You looked at the tiled flooring, wondering if you should tell the rest.

"And why's that...?" He had asked you, tilting his head ever so slightly with curiosity.

You bit your bottom lip to keep from crying. 'My dad is why' you think, looking towards your left away from the curious boy in silence.

After a few seconds of silence, he had changed his expression to understanding with a smile on his face. "It's alright, you don't have to tell me. You can tell me whenever you're ready, but for now, I'll be the best friend to you I possibly can," he gave you a reassuring smile when you looked back in his direction, a small smile now on your face.

You had started to trust him that day and had gotten a lot more comfortable with sharing your life with him. He seemed grateful for it, too.

One day as you were coming home from school, your dad was sitting on the front porch with a scowl and his arms were crossed. You immediately knew something was wrong as he stood up and approached you. As he walked closer, his eyes were dark. He was mad and you knew it.

"Who is he?" your dad had asked, and you knew just who he was talking about. When you didn't answer, he started approaching you quickly and with anger fueling his eyes.

"I WON'T REPEAT MYSELF! WHO! IS! HE!" he yelled in your face and you could feel tears stinging your eyes, but you wouldn't cry... not in front of him.

"A friend..." you muttered quietly, not meeting his eyes, afraid of the look you would receive. You couldn't stand it that he had to know all of your friends. You would often ask yourself why he just had to be in your business.

Unfortunately, though, he's your Dad and you have to live with it until you're 18. That's just how life works: You're born and live 18 long years before finally moving out.

!!TW: Abuse!! ((Be careful!))

You flinch in pain, holding your cheek when he slaps you across the face. You look up in fear and try to meet his eyes, but you can't. Instead you stare at his furrowed eyebrows.

"If I EVER see that boy again, I'll kill him. Understand?"

You nod in response, his hot breath only indicating his anger. He then walked off, arms crossed, and you sighed in relief. Before he walked inside the house, though, you heard him say something just loud enough for you to hear and it made you start spiraling.

You sank to the ground, your vision blurring as the world started to spin around you. You began to breathe heavy, tears falling out of your eyes as his words echoed through your mind:

"You really are a worthless mistake."
