"You really are a worthless mistake."

You had told your friend about what happened at home and to no surprise, he was understanding and the only one who was there for you at the time.

"Wow, that's horrible, Y/N" he had said, giving you a comforting hug.

"Yeah, it just means we need to be more careful about hanging out. Maybe we could find some place in the woods? There's a lot of undiscovered land around my house that I'd love to explore with you one day," you suggested and he gave you a warm smile and a slight nod.

"I love to explore too... Nature is beautiful, isn't it?" he had asked and you nodded your head frantically, excited that he had agreed to this.

"So when are we going to actually explore your woods?" he questioned, and you hang your head low.

"My Dad is home most of the time. He works from home, but when he has business meetings, he leaves for about a week. That's once a year, though." you told him, remembering that he was supposed to go out a month ago but hasn't yet. They had pushed that day to... wait, when was it again? You searched your brain for a minute before remembering that he leaves tomorrow.

"So has he already taken that week or?" he tilts his head towards you.

"No, actually. He's supposed to leave tomorrow!" you say, excitement lacing your vocal cords. You're wearing a huge grin and so is he, that is until it drops again.

"What about your mom?" he carefully treads, hoping he hadn't struck a nerve. Your smile drops too as you remember the arguing.

"She... cheated on him with... his brother, so he left her. At this point, I'm back and forth between my mom and dad, but they both take me to this school." At this, his jaw drops in disbelief. He would have never guessed that about her family. He knew they were strict, but that was taking it too far.

"I'm so sorry to hear that, Y/N" he said, sadness flooding his eyes. You only shake your head at him in response until he comes up with an idea.

"Hey, do you have any siblings?" He asks suddenly, making you curious.

"No, why?"

"So that means you'll be home... alone that week?"

"Yeah...?"

"What if I came over and kept you company?"

You smiled widely and your eyes sparkled as the bell rang. You gave him a quick hug before heading to your class, waving over your shoulder. You'd have to get the place ready before he could come over, but that wouldn't be too difficult.

You rushed to answer the door the day after, excited to see your friend somewhere besides just school. As you open the door, you see flowers in his hands.

"For me?" You ask. You'd be lying if you said you weren't confused by this. He nods and hands them to you, and you take them. "They're so pretty! Where'd you get them?"

"I picked them from a nearby garden. Don't worry, I had permission. I wouldn't take them if I didn't. I'm not a thief," he states with a small smirk, "Unless of course I've stolen your heart, then I'd be glad to admit to stealing," he throws in with a wink.

You don't know how to respond, so you blush and start stuttering over your words. "U-um w-well thank you b-but you really didn't have to- I mean I'm no one special and I don't even know why you'd be interested, I mean I'm shorter than average, I have no sense of self-confidence whatsoever and I just-" You start ranting but he cuts you off.

He takes your hands in his, smiling warmly at you. "Y/N, any guy would be lucky to have you. You're an amazing person and an even better friend, so, even though yes we all have our flaws, don't start thinking you're any less than perfect to me." He says and somehow, you immediately calm down, believing him in the moment.

You take a shaky breath and nod, inviting him inside and showing him to the guest room. "That's where my Dad's friends sleep whenever he has them over." You explain and he nods.

~Time skip~

It's been six days now and your Dad is supposed to come home tomorrow. "It's better if you leave tonight, I don't want my Dad knowing you're here. I'll see you at school," you explain and give him a goodbye hug.

Over the week the two of you have gotten so close, even to the point of hugging, holding hands, and cuddling. Mid-way through the week you had finally admitted to yourself that you had feelings for him, so that made the rest of the week seem to fly by.

You had watched several movies of several different genres, all of which you absolutely loved.

The hug lasts for longer than normal, neither of you wanting to let go. When you do finally break the hug, you're still hanging on to one another's shoulders when he looks into your eyes and smiles.

He then looks down slightly to your lips and slightly bites his own bottom lip. "Um- M-may I kiss you?" he asks and you're surprised, but nod.

With that, he cups your cheek and leans into you. You don't resist and soon enough, your lips brush together as you bask in your first kiss. He pulls you in deeper and your eyebrows furrow upwards as you start to shake slightly.

He notices and pulls away, seeing a mixture of emotions he can't quite put his finger on in your eyes. "That- that was nice" you say with a small smile, still slightly dazed by the fact he even wanted to kiss you.

"Bye for now," he says, smiling and leaving with a quick wave before the door is shut and you're left on your own for the night.
