"Alright!" Gen whipped out a whole deck of cards I helped him make in the last week from his sleeve, "We still need to pick two people to ride in the balloon! We're going to decide by drawing cards. Whoever gets the joker in the deck wins!"
People were crowding around to pick their cards, and Ryusui looked down at the deck skeptically. Snickering, he proudly picked out the card that Gen stuck out on purpose, thinking he was trying to get Ryusui to pick the winning card so they could get him to help them.
He was wrong, and he willowed in the despair of his loss.
Watching Gen work like this, I wondered if I should be worried he had villainous tendency, because that expression he's making is rather terrifying, but even still it was amusing. Some how, I knew that even with that expression he was happy and his happiness made me happy too.
I watched him swipe the joker card out from his sleeve as he pretended to pick a card, "Aw~ what's this?? I pulled the joker!" He groaned dramatically, glancing at me as I put a hand over my mouth to hide my snort, "What a shock! I didn't want this! What ever will I do?!"
"What you don't want this?! It's like a super rare platinum ticket! You might never get one again!" Senku joined in, pointing to the card and speaking in a very unnecessarily loud tone so Ryuji heard them.
"Yeah you're right! But I'm soooo scared of flying!"
Ryuji laughed as he stomped his right foot forward, "In that case, I don't mind trading with you!"
"Really?" Gen curled his body over slightly, batting his eyelashes as he held the card up beside his face, "But, I mean, I did get so lucky to pull this ticket after all, so I couldn't just give it away for free..."

He giggled in joy, carrying the piles of money in his arms. Chrome was chosen as the third one to go on the balloon with Senku and now that they were prepping for lift off, Gen wanted to put his money away in a nice bag for our trek back to the village.
"Rina look!" He threw his head back cackling and I laughed with him, offering to help carry some of it.
"Where are you even going to put all this?"
"You're right, banks don't exist-"
I quickly shushed him, "Make sure no one hears you say that!"
He smiled, "Don't worry, we're too busy to make something as ridiculous as a bank right now. We'll still have to be careful because I don't doubt some people would try to steal some. But right now it still isn't even worth much."
We set it down and sorted it so it was organized into the bag and easier to tie shut and carry. Looking up at him from my kneeled position, I watched as he stretched his back, "Hey, Gen, are you actually afraid of flying?"
His face contorted, "God yes. Why would anyone want to go through something like that? And a hot air balloon? There is absolutely zero safety precaution in this world and I am not okay with that."
"Yeah, I guess you're right."
He paused, quickly kneeling down beside me, "Are you afraid?"
"No." I leaned forward and rested my head on his shoulder for a moment, "I always liked the view from high up. I like watching the stars and the clouds. I never got the chance to be in a hot air balloon before."
"Do you want to go?"
"Not with those crazies. Maybe once things are better, and calmer, they can set up a hot air balloon activity when the weather is good and everyone can try it out."
"That sounds like a great idea." He encouraged, and I moved my head to look into his eyes.
His eyes were dark, but they were endless just like any other colour, like that abyss in space they tell you about. The possibilities are infinite, and even though it was scary it was also comforting.
"Gen." I mumbled, and he etched closer,
"Yeah?"
"Ah- um, we should-"
He closed the gap and kissed me quickly, a little bit feverishly, but nothing that was too overwhelming. I shut my eyes and kissed back even though it still felt so sudden. I didn't know if I was doing it right, but when he pulled back, he breathed out like I'd taken his breath away.
"Was that your first kiss?" He asked.
"Was it yours?"
"Unfortunately no. I've kissed once or twice before."
"Well, I'm sure you had a decent fan base." He snorted at my words, ducking his head,
"Yeah, of twelve year old's interested in card tricks."
"Shouldn't we go back?" I said again, actually finishing this time, and he pursed his lips.
"Do we have to?"
"Gen!"
