- A tribute to Senku -

-

Gen was very good at holding his tongue. If he did tell someone something he wasn't supposed to tell, it was never an accident or because of peer pressure. It was simply because he decided he wanted to tell regardless of what he promised another person. Everything he did was pretty solidly planned out, and even though I told him not to tell anyone about what happened with Ryusui and how upset it made me, he told Minami I was 'feeling down' and now she was insisting I stick with her.
"You know, boys are useless anyways."
My eye brow twitched, because that statement was pretty false, but I understood where she was coming from. Even if I hated Ryusui's rich guts, that didn't mean he was useless. And I guess... the same goes for me.
"Senku is busy working on the new thing I asked for." She sighed, picking lightly at her nails, "Maybe I could ask him to make a nail file too?"
I blinked as Kohaku approached, having over heard, "Just scratch your nails on this."
She held up a rock, that had obviously been used by Kohaku probably half her life, "Some people use a knife, but this works fine too."
"A-a knife?? To trim nails??" Minami cried, hands shaking as she took the rock, "That's so dangerous..."
Kohaku looked confused, but wrote it off as a modern world thing and carried about her day, as did everyone else that didn't spend time worrying about nails like Minami. After she started using the rock as a nail file despite her disgust in the method, though, she started talking to me about the gown Yuzuriha made for me.
"It was so pretty! Was it heavy though?"
"Yeah, a little, but nothing too bad."
"Too bad she only really made it so you'd fit into it. It could be like... the first new age wedding dress." She snapped her head over to me with an oddly specific look and I narrowed my eyes at her.
"Um... and what exactly might you mean by that?"
"You and Gen, duh!" She grinned, "I'd never thought I'd see the day where that mentalist is smitten with someone. You guys just have to get married!"
You just want to attend a wedding... I thought, we haven't even been together for half a year!
Chromes screaming from the shed distracted Minami enough to turn to see what was going on. Senku stepped out to show off what they'd made, a mirror, and Chrome's screams had come from seeing his reflection for the first time.
Minami sighed, "A mirror is important, but what I want is a tool of my trade!"
"This mirror, is film." Senku explained, moving to gather the other parts Kaseki helped him make. He let us watch him put them together carefully, "You place the glass in the main body and shut the lid. The body functions as a dark room. You then pour salt water into the hole, after that drain it, and now you're done preparing the film."
He stood straight and Minami stepped forward, mouth falling open as it all came together. Everyone knew exactly what that was, even if it was ancient.
"Humanities oldest camera!"
Minami took the camera and for the first time, I saw the purest of her, as she dropped to her knees and cried with her heart in her arms. A heart of hope, that Senku had given her just like he'd given me all that time ago.
Senku yanked out a full cart of cameras to cut off the crying, and I wondered if there was just something in him that didn't understand how to handle people who were crying in the slightest. Minami quickly insisted that she should at least get to take the first picture for the records, and Ryusui appeared yelling that he wanted to buy the right to the first photo.
"Why the hell should the first picture be of you?!"
"What are you saying?" He replied with a small smile, though there was still a bit of an annoying glint in his eyes, "This is a record of the start of scientific civilization. Isn't it obvious it should be Senku?"
I smiled as they blabbered, bickering amongst each other at which outfit Senku should wear and how he should stand, and then he pushed everyone away and stomped towards the balloon, annoyed.
Gen stood just behind me, and took my hand in his slowly and gently, as to not draw attention from anyone around us. Minami insisted Senku pose in some way, and we all watched in anticipation. Finally, after some inspiration from Ryusui's recently revived butler, he settled with something that suited him better than a big smile would have.

After he left on the balloon again with the balloon crew, everyone else who had steady hands moved to the shed to fix up the picture and bring it to life. After following all Senku's instructions carefully to get the best results, Chrome held out the picture for us to see.
"What's up with this pose?"
"You wouldn't understand unless you were one of the modern people." Gen chuckled, "The worlds most famous scientist's pose."
Even I knew, though I was never into science all that much. And even though we were all tired, sweaty, with bits of aches left over from constantly moving our bodies everyday... Senku looked great.
He even looked a little bit like a hero.
