Chapter 8: The Symptoms

There were certain things that I hated to think about and one of those things just happened to be my wedding date.

Ever since my parents announced my engagement to Rein, I haven't really given it any serious thought. I mean, I knew that I would have to marry him someday, but with it being a little over a week away, I was a bit scared.

"Good morning, Harp," Stacy greeted me as he kissed my bare shoulder. The feeling of his kisses sent love sparks down my spine.

"Good morning, Ace," I returned, looking back to kiss him.

"Is there something wrong," he suddenly asked in concern, probably noticing the distress in my features.

"No... I mean... I think so...," I paused and looked at him shortly. "I spoke to Rein... about him attacking you," I admitted. A dark gleam sparked in his light eyes.

"And what did he say," he questioned, his voice harboring a hint of venom.

"He told me he didn't do it," I informed.

He chuckled sarcastically. "How the hell does he think he can marry you if he can't even be honest with you," he inquired with disgust.

"I don't care if he's not honest with me. As long as I have your honesty, I am fine," I assured him before leaning forward to kiss him again.

"This is why I love you so damn much," he moaned as he pulled me in for a deeper kiss.

I pulled out of the kiss and stared at him sorrowfully. "My wedding is almost a week away," I stated and he frowned.

"So what," he questioned. "You're not going to stop seeing me because of your fifty-year-old fianceé, are you," his inquiry seemed almost urgent.

"No! Never," I replied truthfully.

He smiled. "I love you," he said.

"I love you, too, Stacy," I returned with a light kiss. My cellphone suddenly began vibrating from the nightstand. I knew exactly who it was, and Stacy seemingly did as well.

"Rein," Stacy answered coldly. He paused. "She's bus--" he abruptly stopped and glared deathly at the drapes on his balcony door. "Let's be honest here, do you really think I'm going to cut off all connections with Harmony because you two are getting married," he questioned with sarcasm.

"Stacy, give me the phone," I whispered, but he disregarded me.

"Fuck you, you old sack of shit," he yelled into the receiver. "If I could, I would break your damn face right now," he threatened, rising from the bed in his naked form.

"Stacy, calm down, please," I begged. Suddenly, a faint ringing noise resonated throughout the bedroom.

He aggressively handed me the phone before snatching his own phone from the nightstand. "What," he yelled into the receiver. "Sorry, someone got me upset earlier. Is it there? Okay, I'm coming. Thank you," he hung up and looked at me. "I'm sorry, Harp, but I have to go pick something up," he kissed my cheek. "Fuck you, Rein," he shouted into the phone, reminding me that Rein was still on the line.

"Hello," I said into the phone only to hear Rein's sarcastic laugh on the other end.

"Immaturity fits your friend well. I'm not so sure you two would last very long anyway," he commented with disdain.

"What do you want," I asked, uninterested in him degrading Stacy.

"I want you to come home. Your mother was calling me and asking if I knew where you were," he said, annoyance in his tone.
