On the other side,

As the vibrant lights of the party began to dim and the night air grew cooler, the time had come for the guests to depart. Haoxuan's mother-in-law, a woman of refined elegance and sharp intuition, noticed the absence of her son-in-law as the group gathered near the entrance to leave.

Frowning slightly, she glanced around the gathering, her eyes searching for Haoxuan's familiar figure. "Enya, have you seen Haoxuan?" she asked her daughter, her tone laced with a subtle concern.

Enya, a bit tipsy from the drinks she had indulged in throughout the evening, giggled softly. "Oh, Mother, he's a grown man. He'll find his way home."

Her mother's concern deepened, and she eyed Enya with a mix of worry and exasperation. "Enya, you're his wife. You should know where he is!"

Enya's laughter bubbled up again, unfazed by her mother's reproach. She leaned back in her seat, her cheeks flushed. "Mother, don't worry so much. He's probably having a blast somewhere."

Haoxuan's mother-in-law shook her head, torn between annoyance and amusement at her daughter's carefree attitude. She reached for her phone in her purse, intending to call Haoxuan. However, as she dialed his number, the call went unanswered. She tried again, the ringing tone piercing the silence, but still, there was no response.

Enya's laughter softened, and she peered at her mother with a mischievous glint in her eyes. "Maybe he's playing hide-and-seek. You know how he likes his surprises!"

Her mother sighed, her worry not entirely replaced by humor. "Enya, this isn't a game. We should be concerned about his whereabouts."

As they made their way to the waiting cars, Enya stumbled a little as she settled into the backseat next to Yu Liang's baby trolley. Her eyelids grew heavy, and she let out a contented sigh. "Let's not worry, Mother. I just want to nap."

Haoxuan's mother-in-law glanced at her daughter, her exasperation melting into a fond smile despite herself. Enya's carefree attitude, even in the face of her husband's mysterious absence, was both frustrating and endearing.

"We'll be home soon, Enya," she said with a mixture of amusement and concern. "Maybe by the time you wake up, Haoxuan will have reappeared."

Enya's head lolled to the side as her eyes drooped. "Sounds like a plan, Mother."

As the car pulled away from the party venue, the night enveloping them, Enya's gentle snores joined the hum of the engine. Her mother shook her head, a soft chuckle escaping her lips. She glanced over at her sleeping daughter, then at Yu Liang, who was sleeping peacefully in his trolley, blissfully unaware of his parents' antics.

"It might not be a good idea to go home. What if Jiyang is still alive. I will have to verify myself first." Enya's mother thought and asked the car driver to drive them to the farm house instead.

The driver nodded, adjusting his course, and the car began to move again, this time toward the more secluded farm house that the family owned. As the car continued its journey, Enya's mother allowed herself a moment of quiet satisfaction.

The car rolled to a stop in front of the serene farm house, the sound of crickets filling the air. Enya slowly blinked her eyes open, her head swimming from the effects of the alcohol. She looked around, a mix of confusion and realization dawning on her as she recognized the surroundings.

Rubbing her temples, she turned to her mother with a groggy smile. "Wait, why are we here?"

Her mother's expression held a touch of amusement. "I thought it would be nice to spend the night away from the city, dear. Give us all a little breather."

Enya nodded, the grogginess still lingering but her acceptance clearer now. With a yawn, she unbuckled her seatbelt and carefully picked up Yu Liang from the baby trolley. She cradled him in her arms, his peaceful slumber somehow grounding her despite the haze of alcohol.

As they entered the farm house, Enya's mother quickly made her way to another room, her fingers dialing a number with practiced ease. She stepped away for a moment, her voice hushed as she spoke into the phone.

Enya, still carrying the sleeping Yu Liang, looked around the cozy room they had entered. The rustic charm of the farm house brought a sense of comfort, even in her slightly inebriated state. She carefully placed Yu Liang in the bed, then slept beside him.

Enya's mother paced back and forth in the dimly lit room of the farm house, her phone pressed to her ear. Her brow furrowed as she listened intently to the voice on the other end.

"Update me on the situation," she demanded, her tone sharp and impatient.

Her man's voice crackled through the phone. "Ma'am, we followed your instructions, but it seems things didn't go as planned."

"What do you mean?" she snapped, anger simmering beneath her controlled exterior.

"He managed to call someone, a friend named Wen Ning. It appears that Wen Ning contacted the police, and they intervened before we could take any further action. Jiyang was taken to the hospital," her man explained.

Enya's mother clenched her fist, her nails digging into her palm. "Taken to the hospital? Did you not kill him? I said you to kill him if once and for all!!!"

"We were about but the police arrived," her man reported.

Enya's mother let out a frustrated growl, her disappointment and rage palpable. "Incompetence. This was supposed to be a simple task."

"I'm sorry, ma'am. We did everything we could," her man said, his voice carrying a hint of unease.

She took a deep breath, trying to reign in her anger. "Keep monitoring the situation. I want to know his every move."

"Of course, ma'am."

Just as she was about to end the call, her man's voice carried a note of hesitation. "There's one more thing, ma'am. A piece of information that might interest you."

She gritted her teeth, her annoyance evident. "What is it?"

"Haoxuan is also at the hospital," her man revealed.

Enya's mother's eyes narrowed, her anger taking a new turn. "What? Why is he there?"

"He's with Jiyang and someone named Detective Ji Li," her man informed her.

The revelation stoked her fury even further. Her well-laid plans were unraveling, and the fact that Haoxuan was involved only fueled her ire.

"Thank you for the update," she said through gritted teeth, her voice cold and controlled despite her seething emotions.

"Of course, ma'am. We'll continue to keep you informed."

Enya's mother ended the call, her anger radiating off her in waves. The night had taken an unexpected turn, and she couldn't help but feel a mixture of disappointment and determination. The situation was far from over, and she was not one to back down easily.

As she stood in the quiet hallway, her anger mingled with a growing sense of resolve. The game had changed, and she was ready to adapt and strike back harder.
