Chapter six

Jamella's pov

Tamar was in a whole mood as she sat shaking my baby on her lap. She didn't tell me if she had gotten Maniyay or not. I would be discharged sometime today and she said she wanted me and Malique to stay at her place for a while.

The police still wanted more statements, but I just wanted to put this behind me and move on. The door opened and the nurse from earlier walked in. She smiled and told me I had visitors. I looked at Tamar and she sat up looking back at me. The nurse turned and went back out and Tamar went and stood in the doorway.

She moved away allowing a police officer to enter my bedroom followed by my parents. My eyes widened in shock on seeing them. Tamar went out behind the police officer carrying the baby with her. She had been here since eleven the night before and had taken the day off from work to stay with me.

"What are you doing here?" I asked my parents who were staring at me. My mother was crying and she came and hugged me.

"Mom, I'm fine, stop crying I only got a few bruises." I told her.

"I nearly had a heart attack when I saw the van on the news." She said drying her tears.

"Van! Did they locate it?" I asked.

My mother looked up at my dad who was still standing at the foot of the bed. "So you have a baby for that jackass? You need to tell him to stop coming to our house." My dad said.

"What are you talking about dad?" I asked calmly. My mother told me the whole sordid news, of Damien coming to visit every week saying I was hiding from him. The child Peta-gaye has, had three other fathers and even though the DNA had went to the court proving Damien wasn't the father. He still had to be paying child support, which resulted in him going to jail twice.

Peta-gaye had kicked him out of the apartment and he now stayed with a friend. My sister had confessed to them lastnight after watching the news, that she was the real reason I had left home.
My father was looking at me when I looked over at him. I sighed as I began to tell them about my son and my job.

"What about the child's father?" He asked and the door opened bringing in Tamar who wanted feeding for Malique.

"He's away at work at present." I told
him and Tamar glanced over at me with a wooden expression. I thanked them for coming and asked that we no longer be strangers and my father wore a smile he rearily wore. They took turns holding a curious Malique as I got discharged from the hospital. I bid them farewell as I got into Tamar's car with her and we drove to her home.

That evening Ms. Maize took a bag of clothes for me and the baby, along with a few things we'll be needing. "Maniyay has travelled and will be back in two days time. His sister brought this bag to the laundromat this morning and I was surprised and happy to sse her." She explained.

I nodded rubbing one of the bruise on my ribcage, they looked very ugly now. My boss was very sympathetic when we spoke on Ms. Maize's phone. The police had released that we had been found to the media, however they stated that we were still in hospital.

"I guess they are trying to catch the person who tried to kill you." Tamar's fiancé Okang said.

I took two panadol and went to lie in the guest room I was staying in. I jumped out of my sleep shaking in fright. "It's ok, I'm here." Tamar whispered from a chair beside the bed.

"Oh I didn't know I would fall asleep, was he a bad boy?" I asked her.

"No he was super duper and you needed the rest. Try not to think about the accident too much, you are a strong person, you will get through this." She whispered. Then she got up and put a sleeping Malique beside me.
