Between Two Hearts

after everything

*caleb's pov*

i wake up, panting. I'm sweating, the air is cold. i look outside, its dark yet lights glow the main hall still. i check the time, 2am. i don't remember my dream, but i have a horrible feeling. i lay back down, dozing off again.

i wake up to a-punk by vampire weekend playing from my phone. i smile to myself, thinking back to when we would scream it at the cliff.

"his honor drove southward seeking exotica!" she laughs and bops along to the song.

"down to pueblo huts of new mexico!" i sing, (very badly i might add.)

"cut his teeth on turquoise harmonicas," we sing together.

"ohh oh woah!" she leans closer to me and we laugh.

i chuckle again, the hole in my heart aching. i miss her so much.

i text pride asking if he would hang out today, he responds sure and i get dressed.

i laugh and take a sip of my drink, pride looks around. were sitting at a small cafe, their shit is top tier so we go here all the time now. i notice prides suddenly gotten very quiet so i look at him, hes staring at something. when i follow his line of vision i see Eris standing next to a boy with curly dark brown hair. i look back at pride, utterly confused. when it clicks. i turn back to look, and i see Bowie. the man i hate, the boy who took Rory from me and everyone she loved. the boy who hurt Rory and ruined her youth. he laughs at something Eris says, that's when we lock eyes. his face goes straight, and squint my eyes more.

when he looks away, i can imagine steam coming out of my ears. i stand up, the chair falling. pride grabs my hand, and i pull it out of his grip. walking towards Bowie, i feel anger build up the closer i get towards him. when i finally stand 2 feet away from him, i crack my knuckles. and throw a punch on his stupid fucking face. his head turns the other way, blood dripping from his nose. i feel pride run behind me and grab my shoulder, pulling me backwards. i sniffle, cracking my neck. he looks up at me, brows scrunched together. Eris is just watching, amusement on her face.

"what the fuck, man!" he yells. i scrunch my eyebrows together.

"do you not remember me?" he pauses, then his mouth forms into a small 'o'.

i turn to walk away, before i realize something. i spin around, walking close to him and grabbing his shirt collar.

"why are you here, what happened to Rory." i say through gritted teeth. he flinches.

"shes- fine. i didn't do anything to her." he looks away as he says it.

"look me in my eyes, asshole." he hesitantly meets my glare. he opens his mouth, debating if he should talk.

"shes fine, jesus." i throw him back on the ground, he catches himself with his elbows and i turn away quickly and walk towards the forbidden. my chest inflates and deflates rapidly, i push my disheveled hair away. picking up my speed, i see the waterfall. i hear pride calling my name far away but i don't care. somethings wrong and i know it.

i walk under the water, my clothes now dripping wet. i see the eerie door ahead of me, anger rising in me, covering the fear. i walk towards the door, the door that ruined my fucking life, or death. i walk inside, the screams and ashes flying around, having no affect on me. i walk up the black grassy hill, seeing the blue portal a couple hundred feet in front of me- i freeze in my tracks. i see a woman in all white, and 2 out of 3, gorgons.

i slowly walk towards them until I'm about 10 feet away.

"you shouldn't have Caleb. we were very clear about the consequences." i walk closer, slowly.
