I've compared your beauty to that of the ocean--

I've compared your beauty to that of the ocean

More times than I can count

On my ten toes

And ten fingers.

Yet, I still find ways to overlook the atrocities

You committed by finding new ways to see you.

You're gone, but I'm still attached.

I don't sleep at night,

For I think of what could have been if I stayed.

If I endured your torturous words and phrases,

All of which I had never heard before I met you.

It's been years since I first described you--

Someone I had never met.

I knew there was someone coming for me.

Someone who would break my heart in more ways than one.

Someone who would tear me apart

And build me back up

Just to crush me again.

How someone like you could still hold my heart

Confuses me more than I care to admit.

I would search the ends of the world--

The highest mountains,

The lowest valleys,

The darkest caverns,

And the bottomless ocean--

Just to find where we went wrong,

And how I could fix you.

How I could fix us.
