Anonymous asked: "for the touch asks maybe comforting hugs plus cupping the others face for dream and night post battle?"

~oOo~

"You sure you'll be alright, boss?"

"Yes, yes. Now shoo."

Once his boys retreated to do their own thing, Nightmare opened a portal to the world and stepped through. He barely had time to look around before instinct made him open his arms in time to catch his brother as he barreled into his chest, hugging him tightly. Nightmare hugged back just as tight, placing his chin on top of his head.

"I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm sorry," The apologies seemed to be endless, each one more panicked than the last. Nightmare couldn't say anything back, not yet, so he just tightened his grip and stood there through the sobs.

It had been a normal battle, honestly. Blue fought Dust and Killer, Ink fought Cross and Horror, and of course, Dream fought him. The attacks were predictable, as always, the dodging was predictable, as always. At least, they were supposed to be. Somehow, Nightmare stopped paying attention, or maybe Dream stopped, or both of them did, whatever--someone stopped paying attention to how the other moved. So when Ink shouted something, they got startled, Dream more so.

The arrow he had got shot and actually hit Nightmare.

This made the battle freeze. The one thing they always agreed on during battle was to never actually injure the other, at least not fatally. Small scratches from being thrown were fine, but to actually shoot an arrow and have it hit? Unthinkable.

Nightmare had winced at the pain, grabbing his shoulder. The positive energy burned, but he hadn't been too worried about that. He was more worried about Dream, who resembled the pose he was frozen as that statue in.

The same wide eyes, the same hand reaching out.

The only thing different was the tears that hadn't fallen yet.

Nightmare had taken a step forward, to try and say something reassuring, but Horror had noticed the injury and stepped in front of him. After arguing about whether to retreat or not to treat it, he reluctantly agreed to when he saw that Dream had disappeared from his spot.

Despite the guilt he must've been feeling, his brother had still come back to the world after for their usual meeting.

The apologies still continued and Nightmare was tired of hearing it.

"Dream," he said, leaning back. His brother didn't seem to hear him, eyes closed tightly. Cupping Dream's face, he tried again. "Dream? Dream, listen to me."

Cautiously, Dream opened his eyes. Seeing the concern no doubt written on Nightmare's face, more tears fell and his brother repeated his action. "Are you alright?"

"I'm fine." Before Dream could say anything else against that, Nightmare pressed on. "It's the truth. I'm. Fine. It's just one arrow, and I know you'd never meant to shoot it and have it hit. Even after all this time, you're still that kind of pushover."

That got a giggle out of Dream. Nightmare smiled.

"I'm fine," he repeated, pulling his brother back in for another hug. "We're both fine. We're both okay. We're okay."

Dream hummed and Nightmare could feel him smiling. "We're okay."
