Dream didn't glance at Ink once as he walked into the house and made his way to the stairs.

Ink called after him. "Dream–"

"No." Dream turned around, hand on the banister post, and glared at Ink. "No. Not now. I'm going to my room and you're sleeping out here. On the couch." He turned back and started going up. "I'm not talking to you for the rest of the day."

Ink hesitated by the door. Should he stay, like he'd been told–well, ordered–to do, or go after him? Thinking back on the previous events that led to Dream's anger towards him, he decided that he should try to explain.

Dream liked explanations.

Ink hurried up the stairs and cut Dream off before he could go into the bedroom. "Just wait a second, okay?"

Dream's glare hardened. "Why?" The words were hissed out, like Dream was just barely keeping from yelling at him. "Why should I, Ink?! Tell me. Why should I wait to hear anything from you after what you just did?"

"Let me explain."

"Explain what?" Dream crossed his arms and leaned forward. "Huh? Explain why you followed me, even though I told you to let me go? Explain why you interrupted my meeting with Night? Explain why, upon seeing him, you attacked him? Explain why you almost killed my brother?"

Ink sighed harshly. "I was just trying to protect you! He's faked being nice before, so why should this time be the one time he's being truthful? If I had let you continue, you'd have ended up hurt, with a knife in the back!"

Dream laughed. It was a short, bitter laugh that bordered on hysterical. "Let me? If you had 'let me continue'? Wow, sorry for not realizing that I need your permission to do anything!"

"That's not the point here! I wanted to protect you! If you could just see past your insane naivety then you would see that. You'd thank me."

"Thank you?! For what? Ruining things, just like you have a habit of doing?"

"For not letting you fucking die!"

"If my brother really feels the need to fool me three times, then maybe I should die!" Ink fell silent after that, blinking in shock. Dream panted and grimaced, a faint regret shone in his eyes. He looked away and spoke in a calmer voice. "All I wanted was a happy ending. You took that from me. You do not need to protect me. You've done enough of the opposite already."

Ink swallowed, anger gone. He reached out. "Dream..."

Dream stepped away, a portal opening behind him. "I need some space. Please, don't follow me this time. If you do, then we're done. I'll see you later."

With that, Dream left, and Ink was alone, feeling guilty and concerned.
