I stepped into the ballroom, fidgeting with my masquerade mask. I was dressed in a poofy black dress, sparkles covering almost every inch of it. As I made my way down the hall, I took in many things. The King and Queen were perched on top of a stage at the further end of the ballroom, they were both dressed in their usual regal clothing.

How pathetic.

Guards stood at every entrance and exit, all armed and ready. Small round tables with white cloth were scattered around the room, many empty as all their occupants had decided to get ready for the dancing part of the ceremony. Once I reached the bottom of the steps, I made my way onto the dance floor to blend in. A slow song began playing, and I wedged myself into the middle of the floor.

I slowly swayed to the music, making sure I wasn't bringing any unwanted attention to myself. I had countless people counting on me to bring down the royal family. They didn't deserve their crowns. Their so-called "people" needed to open their eyes and see what they were really doing.

My eyes roamed around the ballroom. They stopped on a figure in a black suit. He has his back turned to me, but I immediately recognised his midnight black hair. The King's son. The Crown Prince.

Before I could avert my eyes, he turned around.

We locked eyes.

What was he doing here? My thoughts became tangled. He wasn't supposed to be here. He promised.

He promised me.

I slowly turned around and made my way to the nearest exit. My heels clipped against the tile floors, my dress flowing behind me.

I snuck a peak behind me to check if anyone was following. Nobody. I exhaled and picked up the pace.

I finally made my way out of the ballroom, sending emergency signals through the transmitter on my wrist. I retraced my steps and made my way to the hidden alleyway I had come out of.

As I turned the corner into the alleyway entrance, I was met with his cold green eyes. A smirk plastered on his face.
