—————

That night I couldn't sleep. I tried telling myself time and time again that none of it bothered me. Everything was set into place and how it was supposed to be. That's why I couldn't get over the fact of me just laying there and staring at the ceiling, my stomach feeling sick. I sighed and sat up. What else was there for me to do? Miles was gonna be Miles. Jayde was gonna be Jayde. I knew I shouldn't have wanted to try and change the outcome of things, but it was making me itch in my skin.
Reaching for my phone, I stupidly went to Miles' contact. I pressed on the text box and typed out a message, then debated if I should've send it.

The message read:
"can u meet me at the park by the school?"

I harshly bit down on my lip and pressed send.

Holy shit.

I was going to set my phone back down but I felt it vibrate in my hand immediately. I flipped it back around to look at the screen, and saw he had replied.

"see u in 10"

Here goes nothing.

-

I saw Miles sitting on a bench underneath the glow of a nearby lamppost. He was shaking his leg and tapping a beat on the top of his thigh. Ever so anxiously, I strode on over to him. When he saw me nearing, he grinned slightly. I returned it, somewhat crooked. I hadn't stopped from wondering why he had agreed so easily. Whatever the reason, it wasn't a complaint.

"Hey."

"Uh, hi."
I replied awkwardly.

"Well we're here now. What's the reason?"

I shrugged, then took a seat in the gap he had left next to him on the bench.
"I just wanted to talk."

"Oh."
He smirked ever so subtly.
"Cool."
He finished.

"I didn't really like how things ended at the restaurant. I didn't mean to come across as- Whatever. Ugh. Miles for whatever reason, I find you to be oddly-"

He cut me off.
"It's okay.. believe me. You don't have to continue. But the restaurant thing? I didn't really wanna be there to be honest."

"So why were you?"

"I don't know."
He refused to look in my direction.
"She expects me to do things with her, so I thought whatever then.."

I turned to him, looking at the side of his head.
"Well I mean, you're dating."

"Mhm.."

"Is something wrong?"

"What? Oh, no."

"Then what's up? Something on your mind? I mean, I'm here right now. You can talk to me?"

He continued to shake his leg, but looked down at me with a thoughtful look on his face.
"I was just thinking, ya know. Isn't it crazy? How I probably would never have talked to you if it wasn't for the stupid class project. Which now I think about it, isn't all that stupid. I mean, I got to know you a bit better because of it, so there was a beneficial outcome."
