Some Things Just Arent Meant To Be

I was in my room contemplating on what I wanted to do. At this rate, you could tell no Shark or Jet wanted to be here. I hear a knock on the door. I get up to open it. It's Brooke.

"Hey Maddy." she said. I said it back. She sounded concerned and intrigued. She sits on my bed and looks at me. I sit on the other bed. "I'm gonna assume the obvious that you and Ruben are together. I mean he didn't just stick up for Sarah at the pool today. He stuck up for you too." I sit in silence. "Maddy it's okay. I just wish you would've told me like I thought we were best friends." "Brooke we are but if someone even mentions a Shark you freak let alone me saying I'm secretly dating one." I said. "I completely get it. I do." I sit in silence again. "What's on your mind Maddy?" "I love my team to death. I love you to death but this Sharks vs. Jets is annoying. We all know I don't have a personal issue with any of them. It's the simple fact of rival teams." I said. "Maddy deep down I knew that. But i truly didn't care. That's why I never said too much. I cant believe you're dating Ruben though. Not because he's a Shark just cause I'd never picture it." She said "It doesn't matter now because I don't know if I can do it much longer at this point. We've been together for 2 years and-" she cut me off. "Hold up you guys have been dating for 2 years!?" "It doesn't matter now. He thinks we stole the spirit stick and that I'm one of the main culprits. Maybe it's best if we stick to our own coasts" I said. "If you truly feel that way you know what you want to do. But Maddy it's a stupid stick. Don't end something great over it." Brooke said. "It's not that, it's the fact that he doesn't trust me. He called me out in front of everyone on something that's completely false. He accused me and us of stealing." I said. "You know what's right and I'll be here for you no matter what. And this secret is safe with me." Brooke said and left.

I finally made my decision.

I worked up my courage and left my room. I get to Rubens door trying to fight the tears. I knock on the door and he opens it. He just looks at me for a couple seconds. He finally goes to the side hinting for me to come in. I go in and sit on the bed and just sit there in silence while he just looks at me.

"Ruben I didn't steal the spirit stick. My team didn't steal it either. But for you to stand there, in front of everyone and pin it on me? I cant believe it. You literally said that because I knew you were gone that we could steal it. Number one question is why would we steal the stick? We had it already. To be quite fair we wouldn't need it to win unlike you-" I stopped the moment I said it and just looked at him. He looked so disappointed in me. I was disappointed in myself for saying it. "Ruben you know I didn't mean that I'm just so mad and-" he cut me off. "Just because you're mad doesn't mean you can say that. Especially when yesterday you said we deserved to win. Like are you serious Maddy?" "I do think you guys deserve to win. I cant even believe I said that. I'm sorry." I said almost in tears. "You know what it's fine just get on with whatever else you want to say" he said. "Okay..." I pause for a minute. "Of all people i didn't think you would blame this on me. I think being on rival teams is really getting to us. We are only fooling ourselves. You're a Shark and I'm a Jet. This was never going to work. From here on out we should stick to our coasts and our teams" I said with tears running down my face. "Maddy I love you and I would want to work through this. But maybe you're right." He said grabbing and holding my hand. I shook my head and just looked at him "Maybe some things just aren't meant to be. Good luck with the competition. Goodbye Ruben." I said letting go of his hand and walking out.
