Out of the Woods (The Walking Dead)

Too Far Gone:

The drive through Mississippi was brutal. There were constant road blocks where they had to make a complete detour, which had Abraham cursing up a storm inside the truck. It took forever to find a pharmacy that wasn't looted clean. Suzy's fever couldn't wait any longer, especially since she kept refusing to drink water, only clutching the bottle to her chest. Once they finally found a pharmacy two nights later, it took both Josephine and Rosita to get the antibiotic into her mouth. Suzy refused to swallow anything they gave her. Rosita yelled at her to take the pill, but Suzy pressed her lips together to keep them from forcing it into her mouth. Rosita had no choice but to hold Suzy down after she kept slapping them away. She went ballistic whenever the pill got close to her mouth.

"Hold her legs!" Rosita commanded Josephine since Suzy kept kicking her. Rosita got behind Suzy and pulled her down and pinned her arms. Once they tired her out, Rosita grabbed the pill and reached around to shove it down Suzy's throat. She put her hand over her mouth so she wouldn't spit it out.

"Swallow it!" Rosita yelled into her ear. Knowing she had no choice at this point, Suzy dry swallowed the the pill, causing her throat to burn in discomfort. Rosita let go of her and left after that to go cool down, not before giving Suzy a nasty look.

"I'm sorry," Josephine sighed, "We're just trying to help you. You know that by now."

Suzy rolled her eyes at her and looked away so she could gaze at the dark road. The group went to all go back to their places in the truck so they could find a safer spot to rest until dawn. Suzy didn't even notice someone was still there staring at her. When she felt his presence, she looked over to see it was that guy Eugene. He didn't look like a scientist, but what did a scientist look like exactly? He looked more like a guy who learned random stuff off the internet in his mom's basement and gloated to all of his friends how much smarter he was even though he never went to college. The mullet was the cherry on top of that theory. This was the one who supposedly knew how to save the world?

"I know there are not many expressions of wisdom or comfort I am able to give you at this moment in time," He said in a heavy Texan accent, much like Danielle's, "I only thought you should be aware of the fact that we must insist on your care and safety from now and into the foreseeable future as I also think it would be wise to accept our assistance so you may not fall into deeper despair and end up like one of the dead ones ridin' our tail."

Suzy didn't respond. She only gave him a dark stare to purposely make him uncomfortable so he would go away. What the hell was all that supposed to mean? He said so much yet nothing at the same time and she didn't understand any of it because of how fast-paced and monotone he spoke. From what she could gather, he wanted her to let them help her? Or what? She would end up dead? Was that such a big deal? Why did they care what happens to her? She wasn't their friend. Just when Eugene was about to awkwardly leave to go back in the truck, she spoke, making him stop dead in his tracks.

"I didn't ask for your help," Suzy said in a raspy voice. This time it was Eugene who didn't respond. He went back into the truck like he didn't hear her, leaving Josephine to hop back in with her with a bag full of medicine from the pharmacy. Josephine gave her an awkward closed-mouth smile and turned away as Abraham drove off into the night.

Josephine stayed awake with Suzy throughout the night to ensure she didn't try going anywhere. Little did Suzy know, she also did it to try making her feel like she had company. She asked her all sorts of questions, making Suzy want to tear her own hair out. "Where are you from?" "How did you end up all alone?" "How are you doing?" "What did you do before all this?" It was so annoying. Josephine knew she wouldn't actually answer, so why was she bothering at all? Did she like the sound of her own voice that much?
