Out of the Woods (The Walking Dead)
After:
The wind blew through Suzy's raven black hair as the truck sped down the road. The sun was bright without a cloud in the sky to hide it. There was an uncomfortable silence between her and Rosita. It had been a week since the incident with Josephine and the fight the two of them had. Every time Suzy looked at Rosita, all she saw was the hatred Rosita felt for her. Rosita did her best to keep her cool whenever she had to reluctantly help Suzy in some way. She had to fix the stitches in Suzy's arm since she had torn into them during their fight. They didn't exchange any words if they didn't have to. Even when it was time to take that antibiotic pill, Rosita would just slap it into Suzy's hand along with a bottle of water and nothing else. They sat across from each other on the truck to keep as much distance between them as possible.
Overtime, Suzy was beginning to look better. Her arm was healing nicely now that she took the last round of antibiotics and the stitches were fixed. She was eating a little more and drinking water regularly, only because Rosita would probably yell at her if she didn't. She still didn't have her knives back, something that made her more and more upset with each day that passed. She still didn't sleep as much as she should. It wouldn't matter how safe she was, she didn't think that issue was something that would be going away anytime soon. Instead of blatantly scratching herself like she usually did, she took to picking at the skin on the sides of her fingernails. It was forming callous the more she did it, but she didn't care. Rosita noticed and reached over to slap her hands.
"Stop that," Rosita said with annoyance in her voice, "It's driving me nuts."
Suzy gave Rosita a look of "I don't care" and went straight back to doing it. Rosita scoffed and shook her head. She rolled some canned food over to Suzy, which tapped her foot. Suzy rolled it right back for the sole purpose of pissing Rosita off further. Rosita was completely aware of that fact, only annoying her further.
"I need to check your bandage," Rosita said. Suzy kept her head down and used her eyes to glance up at Rosita. Suzy shook her head at her and glanced back down at her fingers so she could pick at them some more.
"Maybe you didn't hear what I said," Rosita raised her voice a little, "I need to check your bandage. The stitches should be ready to come out by now."
Suzy didn't even acknowledge she heard her that time. Rosita reached for Suzy's left hand so she could remove the bandage. Upon Rosita's hand touching her, Suzy slapped and shoved her back as hard as she could. Her eyes warned her to not do that again. She couldn't have people sneaking up on her like that. Her mind went straight to fight or flight mode, thinking it was either a walker or something worse. Rosita cursed under her breath before going back over to Suzy to grab her again. Now that she was more prepared, she was able to grab both of Suzy's wrists to stop herself from being shoved again. Suzy grunted at Rosita restraining her and struggled to escape her grasp. She used her legs to try kneeing Rosita in her stomach or kick her away. She thrashed her body to get her to let go, but Rosita was stronger than she looked and held Suzy down with little to no effort. Rosita freed her one hand just so she could slap Suzy in the face. Suzy was so stunned by it she stopped fighting and looked up at Rosita in shock. Once Rosita was sure Suzy was calmed down, she let go of her completely so she could grab her bag.
"That's it!" Rosita dug into her bag and pulled out Suzy's knives and tossed them in front of her, "You wanna leave so bad? Then leave! I think we've done enough for you, so go. The second this truck stops, you can leave and never see us again. Go on. I'm done dealing with your shit."
Suzy stared down at her knives. She thought about doing what Rosita said. It took her a second, but she realized Rosita was bluffing. Sure, part of her must've meant it since she was nothing but a handful, but Suzy wasn't stupid. She knew Rosita was trying to prove a point. Suzy still needed them and she knew it. She took her knives back and clipped them around her belt, but she didn't make a move to stand up, just as Rosita predicted. She turned away from Rosita so she could feel like she was alone. Seeing such a look of defeat on Suzy's face made Rosita sigh. She crawled over to sit next to Suzy with her arms wrapped around her knees.
