Out of the Woods (The Walking Dead)

Before she could even blink, another day passed and everyone was getting up to get a move on. Perhaps it was because she hadn't slept like usual. She wasn't the only one though. Since they lost the truck, everyone was now dumbed down to traveling on foot until they could find another car. Tara was lying on the ground, but most definitely was awake throughout the night. Good, Suzy thought. The lack of sleep was probably (definitely) making her cranky, or maybe this was how she truly felt. Maybe it was both being true at the same time. Either way, she couldn't stand Tara. She couldn't stand the fact that Tara ate up every word the Governor said, agreeing to go raid the prison, and then having the nerve of being so timid and nice, guilty even. Suzy already heard the spiel of Tara never firing a shot at the prison and blah blah blah, which made everything worse. Tara didn't deserve her hate, but she couldn't stop herself.

"Get up. We're leaving," Suzy snapped. She nudged Tara with her foot. She barely gave Tara a chance to move before she actually kicked her in the leg. It wasn't enough to do any actual damage-not even a bruise-but it didn't stop Tara from yelling "ow!" and grabbing her leg in pain.

"All right! All right, I got it. I'm getting up," Tara nodded continuously and raised her hands in surrender. Suzy wasn't sure if she was meant to hear that annoyed "Jeez" under Tara's breath or not. It didn't stop her from turning back around.

"Excuse me?"

"Hey!" Abraham called out to them, "Play nice over there!"

"What are you talking about?" Suzy rolled her eyes and gave a sarcastic chuckle before smirking at Tara, "This is me playing nice."

"Oh, great-" Tara nodded once she stood upright, "For a second I thought we had gotten off on the wrong foot."

Suzy looked back at Tara with a deadpan look, completely unamused. Was that supposed to be a joke? Suzy thought. It definitely wasn't a good one.

"You wanna run that by me again?" Suzy asked. Tara knew it was definitely a rhetorical question. Whatever lightheartedness Tara tried bringing between them was dead or wasn't there to begin with.

"Hey-" Glenn was the one to intervene this time. He grabbed Suzy by the arm to stop her from doing anything worse. Suzy flinched at his touch and was able to twist her arm enough to get him to break his grip.

"Hey," Glenn said again. As the two of them talked, the rest continued gathering their stuff to act like they weren't listening. Glenn continued, "What's your problem?"

"My problem?" Suzy gasped.

"Yes, your problem," Glenn replied, "She has done nothing but apologize and wants to make things right. How about you let up a little?"

"How can you trust her after what she did?" Suzy snapped. They talked almost in a whisper to try keeping the conversation private, not like it mattered, "She is the one who agreed to roll up to the prison with the Governor who murdered Maggie's father, and you wanna convince yourself she has your best interests at heart?"

"That's like asking how can I trust you, you know," Said Glenn, "You were with the Governor too once. You and Merle, and we still took you in when you needed it."

Suzy scoffed in offense. Did he really think he had a point with that one?

"I never agreed to killing people for him," Suzy replied, "It is not the same thing and you know it. I never trusted he was a good person. I never bought any of his bullshit. I never attacked any of you for him. I'm not saying I'm a saint, but don't you dare compare me to what she's done. It's not the same. And I think Maggie might just feel the same way when you find her and tell her the truth. Or maybe I will. Only fair."
