Just Because (A DirkJake Colab Fanfic)

Chapter 17

Jake's POV~

As soon as he sees tears coming from Dirk, Jake was immediately on the other, wrapping his arms around him in a hug. He wasn't the best at comforting people during times like this. He shushes Dirk gently, rocking him back and forth, honestly having no idea what had happened. But for the moment, whatever it was, could wait.

He slowly leads Dirk back to the couch where they slept and sits down, pulling the other down with him. He carefully pulls off the pointed shades and sets them aside, still holding him close.

After a while of sobbing and back rubbing, Dirk finally starts to gather himself up. Wiping his eyes one last time, he reaches over and grabs his shades to put them on before getting up.

"I should probably go check on him." Dirk says softly, keeping his head low. Jake, still in the dark about the situation, finally decides to speak up.

"Go check on whom, may I ask?" He asks shyly, not wanting to set Dirk off again.

Dirk simply waves his hand in dismissal. "Just one of my asshole brothers. No big deal really," even though he TOTALLY made a scene of it. "He's in and out of it regularly. Getting his ass kicked hard enough during strifes tend to do that to a person." He chuckles, shaking his head a bit.

Jake nods and smiles a little at the Strider, getting up as well. "Well I suppose you'd like some company, hm?"

Dirk shrugs nonchalant like, a small smile tugging at the corner of his lips. "If you would like to, I guess." He heads over to the door before turning to Jake, adding. "And if you don't mind, can we forget about me having that little episode? My bros would never let it go if they knew."

Jake nods and smiles sympathetically. "Of course. I'll keep it hush hush." His smiles turns to dorky before grabbing his ring of keys and heading out, making sure Dirk was following before heading to his Jeep Explorer.
