Greater responsibility was not a sign of trust, not when it came from Sicheng

Greater responsibility was not a sign of trust, not when it came from Sicheng. It was just extra weight chained to Yilin's ankles, pulling her down.

Truth to be told, she felt bad for Dong Siqi. To be commanded by someone younger than her, to be robbed of everything she ever wanted... Yilin couldn't fathom how terrible it must be to be in Siqi's shoes. But feeling bad about Siqi didn't mean Yilin didn't feel like shit herself.

She knew exactly why the responsibility was dumped on her, and she knew exactly why it was her. It was nothing about Sicheng and his degree of trust, nor her capability or anything, it was simply because Siqi loathes her. She was literally the bane of the older Dong girl's life, and Sicheng was merely using the hate to fuel his sister to work harder, make herself useful to him, to literally lick his goddamn boots.

It was a clever decision, though. With Yilin chained down and Siqi at his beck and call, Sicheng was practically sweeping the chess board. He didn't have to worry about his two greatest burdens going against him. What a win. If Yilin didn't know better, she would have thought this whole event to be scripted.

She slid the balcony door open, stepping out. The air had gone cold and crisp, but it hadn't started snowing yet. A plus for her, of course, she'd never been too fond of the snow. It made moving around difficult.

The entire household had gone to sleep, that she was pretty sure of, the silence in the mansion echoed. It was about time they slept too. Zipping up the oversized windbreaker, the girl hurled herself over the parapet, hands finding hand and footholds in the wall under like she'd done this a thousand times.

Well, it was perhaps true. But the last time she scaled these walls was years ago and that was because she couldn't just walk in and out through the front door.

When she neared the bottom, she dropped into a roll, easing her landing. Then with a final glance back at the mansion, she slipped into the cover of darkness.

People often called Beijing the city of wonders and pollution, and well, Yilin couldn't phrase it better herself. It was beautiful, the big city really was, but it was always hazy here. If you thought the weird hazy atmosphere thing only appeared in historical CDramas, you're in for a great surprise. But eitherways, Yilin liked being here- in her homeland- way more than she liked being in Korea, even though she was treated like some sort of great criminal no matter where she went.

People here overestimate her, people there underestimate her. Wasn't it just foolish and amusing? Yilin nearly laughed aloud at that.

Even with all the major constructions and rebuilding going on, the girl could still find her way around. It wasn't that hard. The main roads weren't touched. The usual shortcuts weren't blocked out. Her knowledge of this damned city wasn't completely useless just yet.
