Chapter VI

Getting settled

When Alyna and Zed stepped into the storage room, Zed looked around and remembered when she first came to Arachna. The looming, black walls covered in centuries worth of dust, the scattered shelves filled with random items and books.

"Is this where we find the things I need?" Alyna said nervously.

"Heh, yeah, the toiletries are here" Zed said, holding up a clear bag filled with a bottle of shampoo, conditioner and body wash.

Alyna took the bag from Zed and looked around for the towel and notebook. She walked around the congested room and snatched up a white spiral notebook, 2 pencils, a white eraser and a lavender colored gel pen.

"Now for the towel" she muttered to herself.

"Hm? Did you say anything?" Zed inquired

"Nope." Alyna answered

Zed walked around the room, then found a nifty bag, it looked like it was made out of blue jeans with some paint, beads and appliques. She showed the bag to Alyna, who took the bag and thanked Zed profusely. She then placed the notebook, eraser, pen and pencils in the denim bag.

"Uh, Zed? Is that normal?" Alyna hollered to Zed

"What? Where are you?" Zed shouted

"I'm at the marble bust of a person with ruby eyes with pearl pupils!" Alyna answered

As Zed made her way to Alyna, she saw the marble bust, and saw Alyna huddled in the corner, with an Aravoid edging towards her.

Zed felt her Veeora self want to come out. She quieted the thought, but she did it anyway. She uttered some chants and the Aravoid disappeared

"Wha- what was that?" Alyna said, staggering backwards

"Nothing important. Just don't tell the Aides." Zed said, fumbling with a bracelet she was wearing.

"I won't. What was that monster cornering me?"

"It was an Aravoid. Stay away from them, and if you can't, take this." Zed said to Alyna, while throwing a charm at her.

"What's this?"

"That's an Aravoid protection charm."

The girls walked back to the main hall, and the main clock struck 2:30. A message was played on the dusty intercom, the message was:

"Hello, fellow Arachna Haven residents! At 3:00, we will be picking fresh foods from the Arachna Haven gardens to prepare dinner! Please meet at the main hall if you would like to participate!"

"Are we going to go?" Alyna asked Zed.

"I mean, only if you want to, I want to find our other roommates." Zed answered

"Oh, ok. Can I go with you?"

"Of course! I want you to meet them!"

They made their way to the east wing, otherwise known as the dorm wing. Zed opened the door to dorm 12, obviously with a key, and ushered Alyna in. The dorm was very simple. When you walked in, there was a curtain dividing the room in half, and in the curtain were 2 sets of bunk beds and outside of the curtain were 4 chairs and a square table. There also was a rusty bureau with a small set of 4 lockers to the side. The bureau was on the outside of the curtain while the lockers were on the inside.

"Here is your bed, you can choose between the top bunk or a cot, and this is your locker." Zed said gesturing to the items she spoke about.

"I'll have the top bunk, and what's my locker combination?" Alyna replied

"I think your locker combo is 35-7-19, and I have the other top bunk!"

At that moment, the door to the room was opened. The figure who opened the door was none other than Hat, holding a limping, exhausted, mindless Aurora. Hat then laid Aurora on her bunk, then covered her up with cream colored bed sheets and tucked her stuffed animal, a sheep with a stained blue ribbon around its neck, in Aurora's arms. Hat then proceeded to open her black and red checkered bag and pulled out some medicine. She opened the yellow bottle and pulled out a green pill and placed it in the sleeping Aurora's mouth.

"Hi, are you our new dorm member?" she whispered to Alyna who nodded

"I'm Hat, and you are?" she continued talking

"Uh- my name is Alyna."

"Hi Alyna! Nice to meet you."

They talked until Aurora woke up and she was still a little groggy. Then everyone decided that they wanted to go to the garden to prepare dinner. Hat changed her uniform, the new one is a black dress with a red fastener, she put on a pair of red and black striped arm warmers, a spiked choker with a red band, multiple chains and a backpack that looked like a coffin.

Zed was wearing a white dress with a black pleather jacket, a chain necklace and a black backpack with white lace and a bow. Aurora was still sleeping and was snoring lightly. Alyna was wearing a lavender dress with her jean purse. Zed re-tucked Aurora in the bed, then put a bit of makeup on herself, and finally flipped off the light switch in their dorm. Hat was walking, but every step she made, she rattled like she was wearing a suit of chainmail.

"Geez, Hat, are you wearing a suit of armor or what?" Zed hissed through her gritted teeth

"Well I'm sorry that I dress like a knight in shining armor!" Hat retorted

"Guys! We're going to miss the activity!" Alyna whisper-yelled at her roommates.

That certainly got them to move. They sprinted down the east wing and almost ran into an Aide in traning.

"We're sorry!" Alyna shouted to the confused Aide.

They continued the journey to the garden, not running into any Aides on the rest of their walk. When the trio arrived at the gardens, there were multiple Aides, all explaining what to pick.

"Hello everyone, I am Aide Chaperone Lillith and I will be picking vegetables."

"I am Aide Nanny Ophelia and I will be picking herbs and greens."

"I am Aide Carer Ague and I will be washing the foods."

"I am Aide Helper Annabelle and I will be taking the finished foods to the kitchen."
As everyone filed into their different lines, a figure walked into the garden.

"I am Aidine Selina and I will be overseeing the project."

Everyone whispered amongst themselves, the Aidine was here! Everyone tried to look normal and act like the Aidine was a fellow patient.

"Everyone may start their jobs." The Aidine said coldly.
