chapter 21

y/n's pov~

i wake up a few hours later with my head on kanao's lower stomach and her raking her fingers through my unbrushed hair.

my arms are wrapped around her waist, holding her close as she massages my scalp. i squeeze my arms around her waist tighter, signaling to her that i was awake.

"good morning darling" she says as she pets my hair.

"hmmm good morning" i say with a satisfied hum as i snuggle into her more.

she giggles as she continues to rake her fingers through my hair affectionately. "oh! i just remembered something about the mission." kanao says lightly.

"what is it?" i ask curiously. "me and giyuu are 95% sure that the other guy we were paired with has a huge crush on me." she says with a sigh.

"it was honestly extremely irritating. he kept trying hold my hand and stuff. it was kinda making me uncomfortable..." she said as she slowly stroked my hair.

"ew. from what i saw when he came in he isn't the best looking. im way hotter." i say with pride as i look up at the beautiful girl that i was laying on. her hair was down and she was still dressed in her demon slayer uniform.

"yes you are, my beautiful girl" kanao says with a sweet and loving smile. i smile and  move up to kiss her cheek. she places a sweet short kiss on my lips but long enough to keep me wanting more.

i nuzzle my head in between her chest and lay on top of her as she chuckles and wraps her arms around me. a few minutes later of cuddling and just spending time in each other's presence, someone knocks on the door.

"what's up? im trying to spend quality time with my girlfriend." i say slightly annoyed. "oh sorry about that! i just wanted to come and say the new patient has woken up and is asking for kanao!" tanjiro says.

"oh tanjiro! come in!" i say not moving from my position facing the door. tanjiro slides the door open and comes in.

the burgundy haired male lays on the bed next to us and stares up towards he ceiling. "yeah the new patient is kinda weird... he's like demanding for kanao. he was also saying something under his breath about "she's probably with that y/n person"? i dunno. me nor inosuke heard it but zenitsu did and told us about it." he said looking at us.

i scoff and laugh a little. "he probably thinks he can get rid of me so easily. pfft. let him believe what he wants for now. it'll be funny to see his reaction when he realizes that no matter what he does she wouldn't leave me for someone like him." i say.

"i mean they have a point. i'd honestly rather die than leave her for someone like him. if i can't spend a lifetime with them then i don't want a lifetime at all." kanao says as her grip on me tightens.

"awwwe you guys are so adorable! it makes me sick!" tanjiro says sarcastically with a big smile. "love you too tanji!" i yell as he exits the room.

"don't forget to go see the new guy! otherwise he won't ever stop bugging us about it. do it for our sanity please! and to keep inosuke from keeping him here longer." tanjiro says with a wave as he heads back to the room he's staying in.

"hmm i lowkey kinda wanna see the guy that thinks he can steal my girl." i say as i sit up next to her. "ok i guess we can." she says with a sigh.

"oh! y'know what we should do?" i say as an idea pops into my head. kanao hums signaling me to continue. "we should act all lovey dovey around him just to make him irritated!" i say excitedly.

kanao chuckles at my excitement as she replies. "that's actually not a bad idea. it would be very funny to see what he does." she says. "ok then! let's go!" i say as i get up and grab her hand and pull her along.

we run into aoi on our way to tanjiro's room and i stop her to ask a question. "hey aoi! where's the new guy staying?" i ask as she stops in front of me. "im pretty sure he's sharing a room with the trio. we're still a bit packed with other slayers here so we just put him with them." she says. "ok thank you! see you later!" i say as i run with kanao in the direction of the room.

we arrive at the hallway that the room is located in. i stop and turn to kanao. "ok here's the plan. we're just gonna go in and say hi and do what we usually do. we'll enter holding hands as we usually do, stuff like that. i'll tell zenitsu and inosuke to sit on one bed and you and tanjiro will be sitting on another. i'll chose to sit on the floor so im more in the conversation and don't have to squeeze in between anyone. i'll sit by your legs and, if you're comfortable with it of course, you'll rest you legs on my shoulders so your thighs will be around my head pretty much and you'll just do what you were doing this morning and stuff. and if you want you can do anything extra i don't mind. this is just an idea i had." i say explaining my plan to her

she blushes a bit and agrees to it. "it seems like a really good plan. im absolutely comfortable with everything so there's no need to worry about that." she says with a smile.

i smile and lean in to give her a quick kiss before grabbing her hand and running to the room with a smile.

i knock on the door to make sure nezuko isn't in there so i don't accidentally let light in. "you're good!" i hear tanjiro say.

"WHATS UP FUCKERS!? YOUR ABSOLUTE FAVORITE PERSON IS HERE!" i say slamming the door open with a huge grin.

"rengoku!?" the trio yells in unison. "what the fuck man?" i say fake pouting.

"don't worry darling, you're my favorite person." kanao says to me. "why thank you. at least someone appreciates me." i say jokingly rolling my eyes.

"oh shut up y/n you know we all adore you." zenitsu says. "yeah im aware. i'm just that good of a person y'know" i say sarcastically.

we all laugh as me and kanao enter the room. i shut the door behind us and notice the new person laying on a bed. he's giving me a death stare and it's taking everything in me not to laugh.

"oh, you must be the new guy!" i say in a fake ass voice. "im y/n! it's a pleasure to meet you!" i say with a fake smile.

kanao has put her blank emotionless persona up since he was around. i could tell she was starting to get uncomfortable. the new guy gives an irritated "hi" and goes back to whatever he was doing.

me and kanao walk over to the trio and sit with them. "zenitsu, im assuming you heard our plan?" i ask quietly. the blonde male nods in agreement. "perfect. tanjiro why dont you try and start up a conversation for all of us including the new guy?" i ask. im assuming zenitsu gave both him a inosuke a run down of the plan by the way that tanjiro didn't look confused at all.

"hey kenji! do you mind if we go over and talk to you? just to start up conversation since none of us are busy today." tanjiro says with a smile that charms everyone.

kenji looks over at kanao who is looking at him with her usual fake smile. "y-yeah sure." he says. i could see a tint of pink form on his cheeks. i pull kanao closer to me just to tick him off more.

we all move over to him. zenitsu and inosuke pull up the only two free chairs and tanjiro and kanao sit on an empty bed facing kenji.

i take a seat by kanao's legs as she drapes them over me. her thighs rested on my shoulders. i wrap my arms around her thighs, my fingertips rubbing up and down the inside of her mid- thigh where my cheek was.

she starts playing with my hair as we all just casually talk. "awwwe i wish i had a girlfriend! why do you have to get one before i do!" zenitsu whines. "ah well it's really simple zenitsu. im just that much hotter than you are." i say with a smirk.

"WHAT!? THATS NOT TRUE!!!" "mmm but i think it is..." "nuh uh!" zenitsu counters with a pout.

"it's ok zenitsu. once everything is over you and nezuko can be together forever and ever." i say teasingly. "hey don't bring my sister into this! she isn't here to defend herself!" tanjiro says jokingly.

we all laugh besides kenji who looks a bit stunned.

"wait..." kenji says as everyone looks at him.

"did you say 'girlfriend' ?"
