my flower <3 (kanao x reader)

chapter 8 (plus a/n)

y/n's pov:

"me and alex are good I think. we've both been pretty busy with missions so we haven't really had time to spend with each other, but i think we're still okay." mui says with a blank expression, focused on his flower crown. "that's good. you guys seem like a nice and healthy couple so I'd expect you guys to last longer. maybe I could pull a few strings with master for you and alex." I say with a wink.

mui looks up at me then back down at what he's doing. "thanks, y/n." he says. "hey, it's the least I could do for my best friend." I say with a smile.

me and mui hear footsteps from a bit away and we both looked up, attention fully on the direction from where the noise came from. both of our hands are on our katanas, ready to fight as the sun isn't as high as it was a few hours ago.

out from the tree line approaches a boy about 5'4 with light brown wavy hair, green eyes, light skin, and freckles dotting his face. the boy spots us, as we relax, and walks over to us.

'hi alex' I sign excitedly to the green eyed boy. after a bad encounter with a sound demon, alex became deaf so, me, kanao, all the pillars, tsugos, nurses, and other helpers learned sign language for him. 'hello' he signed back towards me. he pats mui on the head before sitting down in between us. 'how was your mission?' mui signs after putting the finished flower crown on Alex's head. 'it was good. nothing difficult.' alex signs in return.

alex then yawns and lays on muis lap to take a nap.

after a few more minutes of me and mui talking, kanao wakes up with a stretch. "good morning, flower." i say with a closed eye smile. "good morning" kanao says rubbing her eyes.

"it's getting dark out. we should probably go before demons get too brave." mui says picking alex up like he weighed nothing. "good idea." I agree, standing to stretch. I crouch down to the still sitting kanao. I could tell she was still only half awake. I signal for her to get on my back and she does so. "I'll see you later, mui! goodnight." I say as I head back in the direction of the butterfly estate.

~time skip to the butterfly estate~

we arrive at the butterfly estate as the moon fully rises. I enter the estate and was greeted by Aoi and Shinobu in the kitchen.

"ah, y/n, there you are." shinobu says in her usual calm voice with her infamous smile. "ah, here I am." I reply with a smile. "did you need me for something?" I question, tilting my head. "yes I need you for a quick bit. could you go put kanao in her bed first though?" Shinobu says as she looks at the sleeping girl on my back. I nod and take kanao to her room and lay her on her futon. I lightly pull her blanket on top of her and kiss her on the forehead before leaving her to sleep.

I return to the kitchen where Shinobu is sitting with a cup of tea in her hands and a full cup of tea across from her for me. I sit and thank her for the tea as she starts talking.

"so... I see you have something for my little sister." she says casually as she takes a sip of her tea. I choke on my tea as my face turns a deep shade of red.

"w-whaaaaaaat??? nooooooo... i don't have anything for your sisterrrr..." i say in a high, awkward voice. Shinobu giggles a bit as she looks at me. "look I'm not going to be mad at you for it. if anything, I'm happy she's found someone she can talk to without using that stupid coin my sister gave to her years ago." Shinobu says. I nod and giggle a bit. "listen, as long as you don't hurt her, you both can do as you please. but if you hurt her... I will not hesitate to end you myself." she says in a menacing voice. I nod and gulp a bit.

Shinobu gives me a closed eye smile as she lets me go with a 'goodnight'.

I rush to the serpent estate as it is closer to the butterfly estate than the love estate. Obanai and Mitsuri are chatting in their shared room as I grab a few clothes and other things from my room in the estate. "y/n!" I hear Obanai shout. "yes?" I question as I stand in his doorway with a bag of things. "where are you going?" Mitsuri says sweetly. "oh! I forgot to ask! can I spend the night at the butterfly estate?" I ask the two hashiras. "yes, of course you can!" Mitsuri replies cheerfully. I smile as Obanai nods in my direction.

I wave back at them as I run back to the estate. I sneak into Kanao's room and quickly change into more comfortable clothes before snuggling up to her. Kanao wakes up a bit. "y/n..?" she asks groggily. "it's me kanao. you can go back to sleep now." I reply in a hushed voice as she pulls me in closer for warmth and falls back asleep on my chest. I follow her in suit and doze off into a comfortable slumber in await for the morning.

a/n~ hello lovelies! sorry i haven't updated since like september but i've been really busy with school and just mental health in general. i'll try and update more this week since this week is pretty uneventful and next week i have off, so be prepared for more updates and chapters!! also what do we think of alex? do we like him? do we not? let me know if i should change anything about him! have a good night/morning/evening! <3
