Catching Fire (Finnick Odair x OC)

Danger Found us

We walked through the forest for around an hour, Peeta in front with a machete chopping away vines. Suddenly I saw something....shimmering behind some vines. 'A force field' I thought to myself. Clearly Katniss saw it as well because at the same time we shouted, "Peeta no!" He hit the force field sending us flying back a bit.

I got up along with Katniss and rushed to him. He wasn't breathing. We almost failed our mission. Then Finnick pushed Katniss back. Katniss pulled an arrow and put it to her bow when she realized that Finnick was giving Peeta CPR. Katniss got startled at first but I was able to calm her down telling her it's okay and that Finnick knows what he's doing.

Eventually we hear a gasp of breath from Peeta. "He's alive!" I say in an odd doctorish voice. "Oh my god. You were dead Peeta. Your heart stopped. It stopped." Katniss said through sobs. "It's okay. It's working now." Peeta said. His voice sounded weak but that's expected when you hit a force field.

We stopped walking after the sun finished setting. Which didn't take long since it was sunset when Peeta hit the force field. We found a perfect rocky clearing in the jungle. We just sat there in silence while Peeta slept. He needed to sleep. The shock made his body weak.

We sat there for hours until we heard lightning. We looked North and saw lightning hit a tree. "Artificial." I scoffed. Katniss and Finnick looked at me confused. "What?" Finnick asked. "The tree it's artificial. If it was real it would be on fire from the heat of lightning. I spend too much time with Jo." I said simply shrugging at the end. They just hummed in response.

Soon enough Finnick was asleep. Then I fell asleep. I don't know if Katniss did sleep but oh well. I was too exhausted to even know.

I woke up to Katniss yelling at us. "The fog! It's poison!" She yelled at us. Soon enough I was touched by the fog, I began feeling the pain in my body as I started to scream. The pain was too much. I looked down to my ankle where it touched and saw blisters forming.

We started running away from the fog. We kept getting burned by it over and over again. We fell down a hill but weren't able to move, none of us could move.

I realized as I layed there that I was twitching. The fog really was poison. I saw as the fog stopped and hit an invisible wall, it moved up like it wasn't allowed to move any further.

I had to get up and see if everyone was okay but if I did I would be in more pain. I slowly sat up ignoring the pain telling me to give up but I couldn't give up knowing my friends are feeling the same, that the boy I love is feeling the same.

I hear shouts of pain coming from behind me. I turn around and see that Katniss and Peeta are in the water. The water started to turn a little foggy from the poison. "Brilliant." I whispered to myself. I started to slowly crawl my way over to the pond area.

As soon as my body hit the water it was painful yet relieving. I looked at the blisters on my body draining the poison into the water. "Come on, we need to get Finnick." Katniss said. Katniss and Peeta slowly got out of the water bringing Finnick over to me in the water.

As soon as it touched his skin he screamed. I couldn't help but let tears run down my cheeks, his pain made me sad. We had to fully emerge him into the water but when Katniss and Peeta tried he just struggled. "Finnick it's okay. I'm right here. We just need to put your head under the water for a second. I'm right here." I told him in a calm voice. He seemed to relax at the sound of my voice. "Ready?" I asked. He nodded his head slowly. "Ok. I'm going to dunk you down very slowly. Just close your eyes and hold your breath." I told him. I dunked his head under the water gently to not startle him. I felt his heart begin to beat faster so I brought him up from under the water. "You okay?" I asked. "Yea. I'm okay, love." Finnick told me with a smile. I couldn't tell if it was genuine or fake. He's gotten very good at hiding if it was true or not. "Okay." I said. I was worried if he was okay or not. "You promise you're okay?" "I promise. I'm fine." "Okay. I believe you."

We stayed in the water till sunrise but even when the sun fully rose we were still in the water. "Payton grab your knives and your trident, and walk over here to me very slowly, and don't look back." Finnick told me.

By his expression I could tell something was wrong. I slowly bent down so I could grab my knives and trident out of the water. When I grabbed them all I slowly walked over to Finnick. "Finnick? what's wrong?" I asked. I could see the fear in his eyes. "Mutts." I slowly turned around when I reached him. Monkey mutts. "Oh no. This is not good." I looked around to find Katniss and Peeta, Katniss was the only one who seemed to have noticed the mutts along with us because Peeta was at the tree with the spile trying to get water. "Hey Peeta, pick up your machete very slowly and walk over to Katniss even slower." I told him.

My nerves must have kicked in since my voice was quivering. Peeta looked up a little too fast and came face to face with one of the mutts. Clearly the mutts didn't like that because they started to scream at us. Mutts started to attack us from all around. Finnick and I were back to back fending off the mutts.

I suddenly got knocked down by one of the mutts. I could feel that it scratched my arm. I grabbed one of my knives from my sleeve pocket and slit the mutt's throat. I hurried to get out of the water and when I did I saw a mutt about to attack Finnick from behind. I grabbed the knife out of the mutt's throat and threw it at the mutt. "Thanks, love." Finnick told me when he turned around. I nodded my head and got up.

I grabbed my trident and the knives that I had thrown and we went running to the beach.
Finnick and I spent the next hour fishing in the water surrounding the cornucopia. We soon went back to the beach to Katniss and Peeta. We ate some of the fish and when Peeta cracked open an oyster there was a black pearl. "For you." Peeta said, handing the pearl to Katniss. Soon we heard screaming.

We all stood up right away and backed into a tree. We heard a canon fire and I saw something rustling in the trees on the other side of the cornucopia. I then realized what exactly it was. "A tsunami." I whispered. The tsunami died down and splashed the water.

When it came up to us the water carried away our remaining food. Suddenly I heard yelling coming from our right. Finnick pulled me behind him when the people came out of the forest, covered in....blood? I finally realized who it was. "Jo?" I whispered. "Jo!" I yelled running over to her. "Payton!" She yelled back.

I ran up to her and hugged her. "Oh my god! Thank goodness you're okay Jo!" I said as we pulled away. "Oh please. It's amazing that you're okay!" She said with a smile. "You're covered in blood! How did that happen?" I asked. Finnick, Katniss, and Peeta finally made their way over to where we were. "It started raining except it wasn't rain it was blood. Hot thick blood. Then the tsunami came and we were blinded by not only the water but also the blood." She explained.

"Tick, tock, tick, tock." Wiress kept repeating. "Yes. We get it. Tick, tock, tick, tock." Johanna said, pushing Wiress. Katniss and Johanna winded up fighting. "Jo! Jo stop!" I said.

I grabbed her arms and pulled her back. "Payton! Let me go!" "No Jo! Come on!" I told her, pulling her with me to the water where Finnick joined us.
