My Worst Nightmares

We were resting on the beach while Wiress and Katniss were in the water getting the blood off when suddenly Katniss yelled, "It's a clock! You're a genius!" We all looked at each other when I realized it.

When Katniss and Wiress met up with us I stated my realization. "The arena. It's a clock. Each section is a different time. Each hour a new disaster occurs. At 3 the mutts, at 10 the tsunami, at 1 the blood rain, at 12 lightning hits the tree. But what are the other sections?" "How do you know what time it is when each disaster occurs?" Beetee asked. "Look. The head of the cornucopia is pointing at 12 o'clock where lightning strikes that exact tree." I stated simply. "Huh." Johanna said. "Payton's right." Katniss said.

We made our way back to the cornucopia to look around a bit. Finnick, Johanna, Katniss, Peeta, Beetee, and I were sitting on the sand while Wiress was sitting on the shore of the cornucopia island singing a District 3 lullaby.

Peeta was drawing out a map of the arena explaining it. I was too busy thinking about how we haven't encountered any of the career's unless they're waiting to attack. Oh no. Suddenly Wiress' singing stopped.

It was silent other than Peeta talking. "Ah." We heard from the right. We looked over to find Gloss holding onto Wiress as he slit her throat. "No!" I shouted.

I pulled out a knife and threw it at him landing right at his heart killing him instantly. I looked behind me to see that Katniss had just killed Cashmere. "We need to get out of here!" I told the others.

We made it into the forest. "How many are left?" Katniss asked. "Well there's you, Peeta, Finnick, Jo, Beetee, Brutus, Enbonaria, and myself." I responded. Soon we heard someone shouting Katniss' name. "Prim!" Katniss yelled, running off. "Katniss!" I yelled, chasing after her. "Payton!" I heard my name being called but from someone not in the alliance. "Grandma!" I yelled. "Payton!" "Grandma!" I kept walking through the forest trying to find where my grandmother was. "Payton!" Katniss yelled. "Payton it's not her. It's jabberjays." "Katniss, it's her. Jabberjays copy, remember? Where do you think they got that sound?" I said with tears in my eyes. I could see the fear spread on her face.

Suddenly the Jabberjays came down from the trees screaming our names. We started running back to where the others were. We saw them but we couldn't get to them. It was a force field blocking our way to getting to each other. I looked at Finnick with terror in my eyes.

He was talking but I couldn't hear him. The Jabberjays started screaming our names louder and came swooping down and pecking at Katniss and I. I didn't realize I had been screaming the entire time until my throat started to hurt really badly. I eventually passed out due to the pain in my throat.

Next thing I knew I was being held by somebody. I opened my eyes to see that Finnick was holding me and saying that everything was okay. I could see that Katniss was being hugged by Peeta. "It's okay, Payton. Mags is okay. They wouldn't harm her. She's a Victor, they can't harm her now." Finnick told me in a hushed whisper. "Finnick's right, Payton. And so is your Fiancé," Johanna said looking at Katniss, "your grandmother and your sister are loved by the Capitol. If anything happened to them there would be riots in the damn Capitol." Johanna started standing up. "Hey! How does that sound Snow? Why don't we set your backyard on fire!" Johanna yelled. She looked back at us. Clearly Katniss, Peeta, Beetee, and Finnick were confused but I knew what she was doing. "What? I've got no one else that I love." "I take that offensive Jo." I said with a smirk. "You dummy. Of course I love you, you're like my sister." "Awww....I love you too Jo." I said in a childish tone.

She winded up chuckling at that. It was the first time I've heard her chuckle since my sarcastic remark during the interviews.

We spent the next couple of hours listening to Beetee's plan. "So let me get this straight. We use the coil of wire that you got from the cornucopia, wrap it around the lightning tree at 12 o'clock, bring the rest of the coil to the water before midnight so it electrocutes anything or anyone on the damp sand?" I asked.

This plan was a little confusing. I was also hiding the fact that I knew it would also blow up the forcefield on the arena. "Correct." He nodded his head.
