00. prologue

i just love judah lewis and it's almost christmas so... it's a perfect time to be writing this.

y/n's pov

If I had to pick only one thing to get for Christmas this year... I know exactly what I'd pick.

I paused my movie as I heard my phone ring. I picked it up and immediately heard the panicked voice of Kate Pierce.

"Y/N! He's done something really bad this time! It's so bad and I have proof!" She exclaimed from the other side of the phone. "He's going to be in so much trouble!"

"Wait... Who?" I asked.

"Teddy! He's done something really really really bad!"

Oh crap.

"Where is he? What did he do?"

"Come over and I'll show you the video!"

"You took a video?" I sat up and pulled on my shoes as I held my phone to my ear.

"Yeah! I followed him to the Deli parking lot!"

I stopped. "The Deli parking lot?"

What trouble has he gotten into now?

"Mhm! Hurry over!" My phone then beeped, signaling the call was over. Just as I went to turn off my movie, my phone died. I sighed and plugged in my phone before standing up and walking downstairs.

Both my parents were away on separate work trips. I could either stay at my Dad's house with my Step-Mom or stay at my Mom's house all on my own, and I chose the latter. My Step-Mom was nice and all, but I just wanted to be alone.

"Y/N!" Kate exclaimed the second she opened the door. She then grabbed onto my hand and pulled me into the house. "Look!"

Y/N watched the video over twice before I spoke.

"He's stealing cars? Really?"

"Yeah! He's going to be so busted!" Kate said as she sat down on Teddy's desk chair. "Just wait until my mom finds out!"

I took a seat on Teddy's bed as I heard the front door open downstairs. I heard footsteps coming up the stairs and then Teddy's door opened.

"You have a good time with your friends?" Kate asked him.

"Get outta my room." Teddy glanced over at me before looking at Kate again. "You know you're not allowed in here."

"And you're not allowed to steal cars from the Deli parking lot."

"What?" Teddy chuckled and looked from Kate to me and back to Kate. "I didn't steal a car."

"I saw the whole thing."

"Can't prove it." Teddy smirked.

"Wanna bet?" Kate lifted the tape for Teddy to see. His smirk instantly dropped and he looked to me for confirmation. I nodded and he started moving towards Kate.

"Give me that."

Kate jumped off the chair and onto her feet. "When Mom sees this, she's gonna freak out! She's so sick of your crap, I bet she turns you into the cops herself."

"Give me that tape, you little creep!" He ran at Kate, but she jumped over his bed and ran out of the room. "Oh, you're so dead!"

"And you're so busted!"

I quickly jumped to my feet and ran downstairs after them.

"Give me that right now! Come on!"

"No!"

Their yells echoed through the house.

"Gimme it!"

I made it into the living room where they were both tugging on the tape.

"You're such a jerk!" Kate exclaimed.

"Come on!" Grunted Teddy.

Kate then pushed Teddy and he fell backwards onto their bare Christmas tree, which knocked down a photo frame. Their last family photo with their Dad.

"It's mine! Give it back!" Kate took the tape and Teddy grabbed onto her leg.

"Ow! Teddy, stop! It's mine!"

"Come on, stop being such a baby!"

I turned around to see Mrs Pierce walking through the door.

"Stop!" Kate yelled to Teddy and I quickly moved out of the way of their Mom.

"What the hell is going on?" Kate and Teddy both quickly got to their feet. "Is this what happens when I leave?"

Teddy immediately pointed it Kate. "She started it."

"Did not!" Kate protested. "He did something really horrible, and I have proof!"

"Oh, jeez..."

I looked from Kate, to Teddy, to Mrs Pierce with a worried look and held my breath.

Mrs Pierce put down her groceries. "What did he do now?"

Teddy looked down at his sister with a pleading look.

"Come on, Kate! I'm waiting!" Mrs Pierce had her arms on her hips. "What did Teddy do?"

"He shoved me against the wall, into this picture." Kate pointed at the picture frame on the floor as she lied.

Mrs Pierce leaned down, picked up the picture and let out a sad sigh.

"You know what I want for Christmas?" Mrs Pierce asked tearfully as I stood awkwardly to the side. "I want for the two of you to get along." She looked to Teddy. "You're her older brother. I expect more from you. Teddy, please put the tree back up. And put the lights on, while you're at it. I've only been asking you all week! Come on you guys! Dad would've had this place looking—"

All three of them stopped for a second.

"Kate, help me unload the groceries." Mrs Pierce and Kate walked out the room.

Teddy pulled out the Christmas lights, which were all in a knot, before dropping them and starting to walk off.

"I'm sorry, Teddy." I spoke and he stopped for a moment before walking upstairs.
