y/n's pov
Setting up the trap wasn't very hard, and soon Kate and I were sitting on a pile of pillows and blankets in one of their closets, waiting for Teddy.
"Hey, Mom said no junk food!" I looked up to see Teddy walking in with popcorn, ice cream, chips, twinkies and all sorts.
"Well, we've gotta stay up somehow." Teddy said as he sat down beside me. "Plus... sometimes, you gotta break the rules for the greater good."
Kate closed the door and pressed the film button on the camera.
"I can't even remember the last time we did anything together, Teddy." She said as she picked up one of the ice cream tubs and Teddy handed her a spoon. "You, me and Y/N! Pulling an all nighter! How awesome is this?"
Teddy sighed as he grabbed his own ice cream, but I did catch the smile on his face as he spoke. "Whatever."
He looked over at me and I raised my eyebrows.
You can smile? I mouthed to him as I grabbed a handful of popcorn and he rolled his eyes, still smiling, as he ate some ice cream.
"So good. So good." Kate said as she ate even more ice cream.
"Slow down, dude."
———
"Teddy! Y/N!" I heard a faint voice. "Wake up! Y/N! Teddy!"
I opened my eyes to see Kate nudging something just above my head with her foot. I sat up to realise she was kicking Teddy, who's chest I had been lying on.
"What?" Teddy groaned as he too sat up.
"He's here!" Kate whispered excitedly before peering back into the camera.
"Who?" Teddy asked.
"Santa!" She then looked back over at us. "He's gone!"
"You're kidding, right?" Teddy clearly didn't believe her until we heard the thumping of footsteps upstairs. "What the—"
"He's on the roof, let's go!" Kate unplugged the camera and jumped to her feet. Teddy and I quickly stood up and followed. "He's at the back of the house!"
"Get your coat!"
After pulling on our coats we immediately ran out the back of the house.
"Be careful!" Teddy panted as Kate opened the door and went outside, looking up at the roof.
"I don't see him!" She called out to us.
"Woah! Gimme the camera!" Teddy exclaimed as I closed the door behind me.
"What?" Kate asked before turning around to see what looked like Santa turning into some sort of red mist and popping in and out of chimneys.
"Did you see that?" Teddy pointed. "It's Santa Claus!"
"And to think you didn't believe it." I muttered under my breath with a grin.
"Come on!" Kate exclaimed. "We'll get a better view from the alley!"
Kate began running off and I quickly followed.
"Wait up!" Teddy called out as he ran after us.
"Hurry!"
"Slow down! Wait!" Teddy exclaimed as we went through the gate leading to the alley.
"Holy crap." I muttered as Kate and I looked up at the Sleigh.
"What?" Teddy looked at us before looking up for himself and gasping.
"Please tell me you're getting this." Kate said to Teddy.
"Oh, yeah, right." He lifted up the camera and pointed it at the Sleigh. "Woah."
"I'm not crazy, right?" I asked. "Like... You guys are seeing that too, right?"
"Yeah... I think so." Teddy replied softly.
"It's more beautiful than I ever imagined." Kate spoke.
"Kate?" I turned my head as she started running off.
"Kate, wait!" Teddy and I ran after her as she climbed onto the roof of a shed. Teddy and I climbed up after her. "What are you doing?"
"Do you realise how big of a deal this is?" Kate asked as she climbed up a pole. "I need to get a closer look."
"Get down." Teddy hissed.
"No way. Hand me the camera."
Teddys sighed and handed her the camera. "Fine."
"Be careful, Kate." I said to her.
"Yeah, you break your neck, and Mom will kill me."
We watched as Kate climbed to the very top of the pole and turned around.
"Kate, what are you—" Teddy then paused and that's when I realised what Kate was going to do. "No, stop!"
"Kate, don't!"
She then pushed off of the pole and into the back of the sleigh.
"You gotta be kidding me!" Teddy sighed and started walking backwards.
"Teddy, what are you doing?"
He then started running forward and jumped.
"Teddy!" I yelled as he grabbed onto the side of the sleigh.
"Teddy!" Kate leaned down to help him up.
"Are you crazy?" I heard Teddy say as he was pulled into the sleigh. He then turned around to face me. "Y/N, come on!"
I ran up and jumped off the roof, towards the sleigh. It was still moving forward and just as I jumped, it moved away from the roof. I felt my finger brush against the metal bottom of the sleigh and just as I began to fall, something grabbed my wrist. I looked up to see Teddy, who began pulling me up. Kate helped and a few moments later I was with them in the back of the sleigh.
"Oh, my god." I panted after landing in the sleigh. Teddy then pulled me into a hug.
"Jesus, I thought you were gonna die." He muttered. There was a woosh noise nearby and we all peered over the edge of the sleigh and saw Santa on one of the roofs. Then his head turned towards us.
"Duck!" Teddy whispered quickly and the three of us did so.
"Did he see us?" Kate whispered.
"I don't think so." Teddy replied. "We got enough footage. Let's get out of here."
"Why don't we just stay here?"
"Stay here? In the sleigh?" I asked.
"Yeah! How many kids get to ride with Santa in his sleigh on Christmas Eve?"
"No, okay—"
There was a woosh and the sleigh wobbled. Then a large bag— a sack —landed on top of us, pushing me into Teddy. We pushed the sack off and a second later the sleigh began to move.
