"You look cute in that shirt, Teddy."

"Shut up." He wasn't very good at hiding the smile on his face. "I'm not cute."

We were currently on vacation in Mexico with Teddy's mom, Kate, Teddy's mom's boyfriend and his son. It was Teddy's idea for me to come too, he literally begged his mother for a week before she agreed. There was only one rule, we couldn't share a room.

"Yeah, you are."

Teddy came and flopped onto the bed beside me.

"Okay, if I'm cute then what are you?"

"Duh, I'm hot."

Teddy laughed and rolled his eyes.

"Yeah, you are." He leaned in to kiss me, but just as our lips connected Kate barged into the room.

"Eugh. Yuck." She gave us a disgusted look.

"Kate! Out!" Teddy pointed at the door but Kate walked in and started rummaging through a bag.

"You know? I liked it better when you two hated each other and weren't making out every three seconds." She said, pulling a phone charger out of the bag. "At least then I didn't want to throw up every time I saw you together."

"We didn't even hate each other."

"Whatever." Kate rolled her eyes.

"Kate, just get out."

"Yeah, in a second, Teddy!"

Teddy then cupped the sides of my face and pulled me in for a kiss, causing Kate to groan.

"Okay, I'm going, I'm going." She said as she walked over to the door. "If you two don't get out of here soon, Mom's gonna come looking for you and then you'll get in trouble."

"I'll take my chances." Teddy replied, not looking over at Kate as she closed the door.

Teddy handed me a drink as he sat down at the table beside me.

"Lamest. Christmas. Ever." Kate complained.

"Really?" Teddy looked at Kate with his eyebrows raised.

"Yeah." She said it like it was obvious. "What kind of person would wanna spend the best holiday of the year sitting on the hot beach with fruity umbrella drinks?"

"I'm gonna go with just about everybody."

"Well, not me. Not when I could be at home baking cookies and building snowmen with real snow." Kate looked down at her phone and Teddy and I just watched her as she went on. "And worst of all, all my friends are having parties and shopping, sledding. I'm missing everything."

"Kate, there's nothing you can do about it, okay?" Teddy leander down a bit so his head was at her level. "So you might as well just relax and try to have fun."

"I think I liked you better when you were a car thief."

I chuckled at her comment and Teddy sighed.

"And I liked you better when you weren't such a buzzkill."

"Yeah, Teddy liked it when you were a "boring slug" as he would put it." Teddy pinched my arm with a smirk as Kate looked off behind us.

"Ugh, how embarrassing!" She groaned. We turned to see Claire, as she wanted me to call her, and her boyfriend, Bob, dancing together.

"Oh," Teddy's voice softened as he turned back to his sister. "so that's what this is about. Bob."

"No, this is not about Bob. I could care less about Bob. He just brought us here so he could kiss up to mom."

Teddy rolled his eyes. "Give him a break, Kate. It means he really likes her."

"It's too soon. They've only been dating for like ten months."

"And they've known each other a lot longer than that." Teddy smiled. "Besides... he makes mom happy."

"Yeah, well, he's not dad."

There it is.

Teddy's face fell and he interlocked his fingers with mine.

"Cómo estás, party people?" Bob's son, Jack, walked up to us. "What are we looking at?"

Teddy pointed over at where the adults were dancing.

"Ugh! Now, there's something you can't unsee." Jack turned to Teddy. "Am I right?"

This kid really needs some friends.

"What are the odds my dad proposes on this trip?" Jack asked and Kate's attention was immediately caught.

Teddy turned to face me with his eyebrows raised.

"Or maybe she does." Jack continued. "I mean, your mom is a pretty progressive woman."

"Teddy! Y/N!" We looked over to see Susie, a girl we met here. She's really nice and Teddy's mom says it's good that she's around so Teddy and I would "stop making out so much" as she would put it. "I heard they have snorkeling! Wanna come?"

Teddy turned to me and I nodded.

"Yeah, one sec!" He turned to Kate and Jack. "You two wanna come?"

"Nope." Kate looked away and back at her phone.

"Yeah." Jack agreed with Kate. "Thanks for asking, Teddy, but I've got horrible anxiety, asthma, and about 11 different allergies."

"All right." Teddy nodded once. "Um, well, suit yourselves."

He leaned back down to Kate's level. "Hey, cheer up, Grinch. For a True Believer, you're forgetting the number one rule." He tapped her nose. "Better not pout."

She rolled her eyes and Teddy got up out of his seat.

He smiled at me and slung his arm over my shoulder.

"Shall we?" He said in a terrible english accent.

"You're a dork."

"Thank you."

———

After snorkeling, Teddy and I were both lying on his bed. His arms were wrapped around me and my head was resting on his chest as we both began to doze off.

It was only about 5 pm, but considering we were out and about all day, and time zones are weird, we were both exhausted.

According to Kate, their mom came looking for us when we didn't turn up for dinner. We were probably going to be in big trouble, but since we were both fully clothed and asleep, she let it slide.

Thank you, Claire.
