"Jesus, Teddy, could you drive any faster?" I asked sarcastically.
"Yeah, I probably could!" He snapped back.
"I feel like I'm about to throw up, dude!"
"Okay!?"
"How're we doing?" Santa asked Kate, changing the subject as he dug around in the car.
"No one's following us, so you can slow down, Teddy."
"Oh, come on, I'm not even going that fast!"
Santa muttered under his breath as he used random crap to make something. I had absolutely no clue what he was making, and it seemed neither did the others.
"Uh, Santa, you know that stuff's junk, right?" Kate asked.
"Yeah, well, Katie Cat, one man's junk..." He lifted up his little project. "is Santa's treasure."
"Teddy, I'm gonna need your knife." I watched as Teddy rummaged through his pockets before handing it to Santa.
There was some rattling as Santa pulled off the radio.
"Uh, Santa, that's not how you work the radio."
I'm pretty sure she just liked saying Santa.
The radio crackled to life after Santa's— whatever it was —was added to it.
"Cool!" Kate grinned.
"...disturbance on the corner of Naperville and Roslyn. Car 476 responding."
"How did you just—" Teddy trailed off and Santa answered.
"I am the greatest toymaker on Earth."
"All units, we have a reported grand theft auto. A 2014 red Dodge Challenger, licence plate six, Bravo, Lima, seven, two, four. Stolen by three kids and an extremely large man."
Santa chuckled at the last comment. "A guy goes to the gym every day, stays away from sugar and carbs, what difference does it make? Oh, man."
"Attention all units, we have multiple sightings of what appear to be... reindeer... running down Michigan Avenue..."
Santa and Teddy looked at each other. Teddy smirked as Santa spoke.
"Just what we're looking for."
"This is not a joke. I have a team of reindeer headed southbound on Michigan Avenue, toward Water Tower."
"They're not that far away." Santa pointed out the window. "That way! Go!"
"The, uh... The car can't fly, Santa." Teddy replied.
"Right, habit. Okay, left on State, right on Erie, left on Michigan."
"How do you know so much about Chicago?" Kate asked.
"I know every street in the world, kid." Santa turned away from Kate and back to the front. "Teddy, you think we could pick it up a little bit?"
"Put your seatbelt on." I could hear the smirk in Teddy's voice as I sighed.
"I swear, if I throw up, it's your fault."
"I don't care, just don—"
Teddy was cut off by Santa, who had put his seatbelt on.
"State Street, go!"
We immediately sped up and swerved around the corner.
"Good move, Teddy." The two did a fist bump and I rolled my eyes.
