BOOK 2 OF THE FOREVER SERIES
It's been fifteen months since a single decision changed Roxy and Isaac's lives, thwarting the future they'd dreamt of together.
While Isaac fights the curse of a blood wolf each day with the chance of finding a cure gro...
Roxy was making herself a cup of tea in the kitchen the following morning when Kayla awkwardly approached her. It'd now been two days since their fight and things were still frosty to say the least. Usually Kayla would stop in every morning to have a chat or to use the larger kitchen to bake her creations. Roxy hadn't even seen her leave the cabin and even Tobias' presence had been absent, most likely the poor piggy in the middle.
'Can we talk?'
Roxy nodded stiffly. 'Tea?'
'Yes please.' Kayla slid onto the stool behind the breakfast bar.
A knife could cut through the tense atmosphere as Roxy moved about the kitchen with her back to Kayla. The boiling kettle was the only sound of comfort, and when it finished boiling a stiff silence descended. Roxy passed the mug of tea to Kayla, staying on the other side of the breakfast bar.
'I'm sorry for what I said.' Kayla sniffed.
'You're going through a lot,' said Roxy gently. 'But what you said about me making decisions for others... have you been resenting me for what happened with Isaac for a long time?'
Kayla closed her eyes. 'No, of course not. I don't resent you... I just hate this entire thing. I wake up every morning with this crushing weight on my chest, wishing for things to be how they used to be. But I know it won't change and it's killing me.'
Roxy swallowed roughly and nodded in understanding. 'I know.'
Kayla took a sip of her tea. 'I've been thinking a lot about Cordelia's offer. Tobias and I have been talking about it non-stop since I got home.' Her eyes darted upwards. 'We want to do it. We want Cordelia's help.'
'She's a witch, Kayla,' said Roxy softly. 'I feel that Cordelia is one we can trust but at the end of the day she's still a witch. She could give you poison for all we know.'
Kayla looked helpless. 'I know and we've gone over every possible scenario in which things can go wrong. But I trust your judgement. We want a baby – desperately. I couldn't stand it if I still can't fall pregnant in ten years' time wondering what if. If anything, this past year has told me no matter how many times you try to do things right, fate tends to laugh and throw it all in your face.'
'And you're sure this is what you want?'
Kayla gave a curt nod. 'It is.'
Roxy put on a brave smile, although apprehension was bubbling in her gut alongside her tea. 'Well then, we best get down to the mausoleum.'

There was a nervous silence amongst the group as Roxy, Isaac, Kayla and Tobias descended down the staircase in the mausoleum. Roxy had kept to her word. Cordelia had been like a kid at Christmas when it was agreed that she would be allowed to bask herself amongst nature in return for enchanting the plant. Glancing over her shoulder to Kayla, Roxy gulped nervously and wrung her sweating hands together. The words Kayla had said to her rung clear in her mind.
