Isaac had given up on waiting for Roxy, now sitting on the couch with his feet on the coffee table as he watched a football game on TV. Kayla had left, continuing on her fruit delivery to the pack. It was when the door slammed and Roxy's alluring scent flowed into the house, he shot up with the energy of a spring chicken. She gave him a tired smile as he approached her, sighing contently into his chest as he wrapped her up in his arms. Her smaller body continued to slot into his perfectly, even though he'd lost a concerning amount of weight. Their wolves purred together, Isaac's rubbing against his stomach where he knew Roxy's own wolf would be doing the same inside of her. Where would he be without his soulmate? Without her never-ending love to get him out of bed on the days he'd secretly wished he'd passed in his sleep? Probably still alone and miserable, convinced that he didn't need his soulmate to have a fulfilling life. What an utter dickhead he'd been back then. How had Roxy not punched him? No doubt she'd contemplated it more than a few times in the early days of her arrival.
Roxy suddenly pulled away from him, a frown on her face as she looked around the open living area. Her nose twitched. 'Did something burn?'
Isaac felt a blush creep up his neck and he grinned sheepishly. 'I planned to have breakfast ready for you when you got home. However I didn't get my madre's culinary skills like Kayla so in a way I'm happy you're home late.'
Roxy groaned and stood on her tiptoes to place a kiss on his lips. As it always had, his body tingled with electricity. They were the only moments when he felt truly alive these days. 'Oh, Isaac. I'm sorry.'
'Never mind, mi amor. Now that I'm a seasoned chef, I shall serve you my specialty.' Isaac grinned and led her over to a stool, placing a lingering kiss on her lips making her moan before dashing into the kitchen.
Just like he'd done earlier, Isaac flicked on the kettle for the water to boil as he dropped a teabag into her favourite mug covered in butterflies. Instead of raiding the fridge for eggs, bacon and cheese, he got a loaf of bread from the pantry and popped two slices into the toaster. Roxy was watching him with amusement when he tried to discreetly get the raspberry jam from the shelf. Her giggle told him he'd failed.
'Mm. Isaac's amazing jam on toast. I am in for a treat,' she teased.
'Only the best for my Luna.' Isaac grinned over his shoulder making her face redden with a blush.
Despite his embarrassment at failing at what was meant to be an impressive breakfast, he enjoyed seeing her carefree and happy, even laughing. The joyful and sweet sound which had once been so common was now a rarity. The kettle finished boiling just as the slices of toast sprung out of the toaster. While the tea brewed, Isaac slathered butter and jam onto the toast. After pouring some milk into her tea, he carried the impressive breakfast over to Roxy.
'Te doy, mi obra maestra.'
Roxy rolled her eyes playfully and picked up a slice of toast. As she chomped, a cheeky smirk was worn on her lips. 'Pancakes would've impressed me more.'
'Well you could've had omelettes as soon as you walked through the door. It ain't my fault you were tardy.'
Roxy's cornflower blues narrowed into a scowl over the rim of the mug as she took a sip of her tea. When she placed the mug back down on the bench a worried look was on her face. Discreetly, Isaac peered into the mug. Had he buggered up the tea? Being an advocate for strong coffee, he hadn't had a lot of experience in making what he liked to call "brown water". It looked normal. Surely it wasn't the toast... surely.
'I got held up in the mausoleum.'
Isaac's defence suddenly rose, a growl tearing from the wolf inside of him. 'What?'
