Karkat Vantas dragged his feet as he walked beside the man showing him to his room. They reached the door, coming to a stop. He had his head down, upset with his situation. The man noticed how he appeared, gently grabbing his wrist and looking down at him.
"Look, kid. It's not as bad as you think. Being a mutant isn't so bad! At least, not for the majority of us. You can handle it." The man smiled.
Karkat glared up at him, yanking his arm away. "You have no idea what it's like for me, so shut your mouth you happy bastard." He scowled back up at the man, huffing and opening the door to his room, turning to frown at him again once inside before slamming the door. He turned around quickly, almost bumping into another kid.
The other boy was taller and looked down at him. He had one hand in his pocket and the other pulled down his sunglasses partially on his nose. "Newbie, eh?"
Karkat glared up at him, moving back and pressing against the door, slightly paranoid that there was a chance he would try to touch him somehow. "Back the fuck up, asshole."
"Woah now, no need to be hostile." The taller boy took a step back, shoving both his hands in his back pockets. "We're all friends here."
Karkat moved to the side, away from the door, looking at the two beds in the room. "So which side is mine?"
The other moved over to the far right side of the room, leaning against the wall and nodding towards the other bed. "Over there."
Karkat sat the bag that he was carrying down on his bed, then sat next to it, holding his face in his hands. "Fuck me, this place is more of a headache than it's worth."
The second boy flopped onto his own bed, laying on his stomach and letting his arms droop over the side in front of him. "Well don't hate it just quite yet. You're new. You'll get used it all."
Karkat laughed dryly and shook his head. "Yeah, I'll keep that in mind as I try not to commit mass homicide."
No one really enjoyed being here. It was full of freaks trying to stand each other up, basically a school of bullies. "Well, you're not the first to feel that way. So what're you in for?"
The newer boy glared across the room, raising an eyebrow. "Did you just ask me what my mutation is? That's rude as fuck."
"Right, sorry. Most people here are more comfortable with it. But I shouldn't have just asked straight off the bat." Others seemed to flaunt their abilities, showing off what they could do.
The auburn haired boy rolled his eyes. "Don't ask stupid questions that you don't want to answer yourself." He lied back, rubbing his temples. "Christ, how many kids can you fit into one fucking school?"
"You'd be surprised. Just be glad you aren't in a room with like, twelve other people." The boy stuck his legs up behind him, swaying them back and forth.
"No.." The Vantas winced, shaking his head. "They would never stick me in a room with that many."
-
"Where do we put him? He's got quite the temper on him, and almost anyone here could easily piss him off. We don't need any more messes to clean up."
"We don't have enough space to put him in a room by himself. There must be someone that could suffice."
"Hmn.. that Strider kid. He'll do just fine."
"Sir, he's managed to piss some people off himself, I don't know if he's the best choice."
"Don't worry. If anything goes wrong, he'll see it coming."
