Neither boy was sure how long they had been sitting out in the grass. For a while, they had just been watching the sky, the trees. Karkat stayed focused on the quiet heartbeats of the animals around them. Dave's eyes were closed, but he let out sighs now and then, indicating he wasn't asleep. He knew Karkat would be able to tell otherwise, though, being able to hear the slow of his heartbeat. Dave opened his eyes in small surprise when Karkat spoke for the first time in what could only seem like hours.

"Man, I can really feel the heat coming off of you." He had his back arched and his arms folded as he leaned forward slightly, relaxed.

Dave wasn't sure if that was a good feeling or not to the other boy. In one motion, his shades were set next to him and he was leaning back on his forearms, starting to scoot off to the side slightly. "Oh, uh, sorry?

Karkat shook his head, waving his hand a little for Dave to move back. "No, it was fine. I just kind of forgot just how warm other humans are."

Dave was sitting up now, moving back closer to the smaller boy. "Well, I am pretty hot, huh." He smirked a little, tilting his head to the side. He leaned back on his hands, his head leaning on one shoulder.

Karkat nodded, his eyebrows raised. "Uh-huh, sure you are."

Dave moved, quickly laying on his side with one leg propped up and one hand on the side of his head. "You can't resist the Strider's hot bod."

Karkat glanced at the space still between them. "I seem to be doing that right now."

Dave's position collapsed, and he simply lied on his side, his chin resting in his hand, propped up by his elbow. "Shh, let me dream." He closed his eyes for a few seconds.

The auburn rolled his eyes, mumbling. "Yeah, right."

Dave smiled, his voice slightly obscured by his wrist pressed against his neck. "You're the one who called me hot."

Karkat glared back at him, scoffing. "I meant temperature-wise, smart ass."

"Mhmm.." Dave's eyes were still half-closed, and he was focused on the ground. "Because otherwise it would just be gay."

Karkat huffed air out of his nose, shifting his eyes away from the other. He looked out at the trees, thinking, as Dave watched him carefully. "Hey, Dave?" He finally said, turning back. He pulled his legs in closer to each other, his hands resting on his ankles. Dave responded by raising his eyebrows. "Uhm, this is dumb, but, the topic kind of got me thinking.." He left a pause, which was much too long, then sighed. "What do hugs feel like?"

They both stared. Dave's expression was confused at first, but shifted into pitiful. His mouth was open, but he couldn't manage to think of what to say. "I.. oh." He leaned forward on both forearms, straightening his back. "That's kind of, a really sad question."

Karkat quickly turned away, looking down at his hands as he awkwardly rubbed his thumbs together. "Uh, yeah, sorry. You don't need to answer that."

"No no, uhm." Dave shifted again, moving up and sitting cross-legged, matching Karkat, who faced the trees. "I mean.. I think it would just be easier to show you."

"But I don't want to.. y'know." Karkat still faced away from Dave.

"Yeah, I get it.. but do you really think you won't be able to control yourself for one measly hug?" Dave held his shoulders in a hunched position, his mouth cockeyed. He wanted his help this kid out. He hadn't had a fair share of hugs in his life either, but still more than Karkat ever had.

Karkat swallowed hard, turning his head back towards Dave. "Er.. I dunno."

Dave moved, kneeling on his knees and scooting slightly closer to Karkat. "Oh, come on. You wanted to know how it feels, right? There're two possible outcomes to this. Just try to relax and it should be fine."
