Kate bites her lip, eyes flicking from her notes on the right and the scans of Bucky's brain on the left, both floating atop the table, facing her head on so she doesn't have to hunch over and damage her posture further. It reminds her of Tony's lab. He and Bruce would love this place.

None of the scans are matching up with the notes at all — not even the ones they didn't have outside Wakanda. The only thing she knows is his PET scan is weird; there's activity where it shouldn't be, considering he was asleep. She can't do much with that, though. None of the example scans compare with the issue they're dealing with. She flicks to the file they've had on Bucky for a while — the one Nat gave Steve. They were able to get it all sent to Wakanda. Kate hopes it will be helpful. It wasn't specific about all of his missions, but it's got tons about his brain. Not how to reverse the brain washing, but it's a start.

Shuri's face pops up behind the scans. "Any luck?" She'd been working on other things, namely for T'Challa's suit. She has a hundred things going on at once, but somehow she keeps up with it.

"None of these brain scans match up," Kate replies. "I'm looking through the file to see if there's anything that can help."

"You've read it a hundred times."

"Yeah, but maybe I missed something."

Shuri pulls up her notes. "They used electroconvulsive therapy, cryo, and trigger words connected to memories. There, you have the basics again."

"Painful electroconvulsive therapy," Kate adds. "No anesthesia. I bet it was to help break his resolve; he fought back more than they expected."

"I have always wondered why they use the word therapy with things that do not sound like therapy."

"I know," Kate replies. "Ever heard of maggot therapy?"

Shuri grimaces. "Unfortunately, yes."

"It was disgusting."

It's only been a couple days since Kate decided to stay in Wakanda, but after a tour of the lab, she and Shuri have fallen into work like it's been this way for years. There are times Shuri will remind her of Bruce or Tony. It's nice.

On the other side of the table, she flips through their sample brain scans, frowning. They're of different brain conditions, compiled together in the hopes of finding one similar to Bucky's brain. But no such luck.

"Do you think we need scans of his brain while he's in... 'Winter Solider' mode?" Shuri asks. "To compare?"

Kate snorts. "Good luck getting him to agree to that. You know why he's in cryo right now, and Steve always described him as pretty stubborn."

Shuri chuckles. "Everything you know about him is secondhand, isn't it? 'Steve said this. Steve told me that.' My brother talked like you knew him."

"I've probably read every book and article ever written about him. Seen every documentary. I've looked for him since I was a kid. And I found him — not that I was particularly looking at the time but... that's not the point."

"You don't know what he's like, though."

Kate glances at her around the hologramed files. "Sure I do. Doesn't matter if it's secondhand. I do know firsthand, however, that he is a massive nerd and he loves science."

"Maybe we can convince him that way — to scan his brain when he's not himself. It's for science."

"Go ahead and try. See what happens."

She sighs, and they go quiet for a bit. Kate continues reading about how HYDRA did what they did, eventually turning to skimming. It always makes her stomach churn. The things he's been through...
