Kate's surprise felt more and more lackluster the more it came together in the mere hours she had to pull it off. If only she had had the idea earlier, she felt that maybe she could've done more... spectacular. Something that would actually stick with Bucky and overpower HYDRA's memories. As it was, she was scrambling to get everything together. If it weren't for Ayo and Yama she couldn't have done it. It took her too long to figure out how to recolor the old photos she found archived online of his family. Finding the sand castle picture felt like divine intervention.

He seemed to like it, though. Relief coursed through her when he smiled. And when he hugged her... her breath caught, she was so surprised. But what could be more genuine than that?

One word down, nine to go.

Shuri and Kate are working on one now, trying to get a car ready for the vibrainium train. They'd definitely have to slow everything down; people simply can't travel that fast without consequences. Shuri is designing the car itself, though, and Kate can see the reverse image on the holographic screen in front of her.

"That's a lot of seats," Kate says.

"After you and Bucky go, I'm taking T'Challa and Mother. And Okoye and Nakia. You and Bucky can go with us again," Shuri replies.

Kate's brows furrow. "Why don't we all just go together... in the first place?"

"Oh no, you and Bucky need to go first. Together." Shuri continues working, not looking at her, but Kate has stopped completely, confused and hoping Shuri isn't talking about what she think she is.

"Why?"

"I'm sure it will be the Sergeant's fondest memory if it's just with you."

"Shuri-"

"You can't tell me you don't want to be alone with him, either," she argues, finally looking up from her work.

Kate sighs. "I don't care one way or the other. And I'm not entertaining this conversation again."

"You don't have to entertain the conversation for the feelings to be clearly there."

"You're reading into something that doesn't exist."

"What, like the way he looked at you the other night? Or the way you talk to each other? The way you talk about him?"

Kate had already turned back to her projected notes of the words. She bristles at Shuri's words. "You read too many stories."

Shuri only shakes her head, mercifully dropping the conversation, so Kate tries to focus on her work again. Finding new ideas for the words, reading the same things over and over until something comes to her.

With daybreak, she knows they have to do something at sunrise. Simple seemed to work okay for homecoming... Maybe could they just watch the sunrise? It's probably beautiful here. She'll have to ask Bucky what he thinks.

What's he doing right now? Is everything going okay, is he adjusting well? Is it what he wanted out there? What's he thinking about right now? Definitely not her — because Shuri is wrong — so she needs to focus.

Furnace. Well, it's a literal thing. They'll have to build a furnace. Unless there's some abstract way to represent a furnace, but taking it literally is the easiest thing to do even if it's useless in this heat. So what do they do with it once it's built? Roast marshmallows? Maybe? Does he even like marshmallows? Who doesn't? What else did he like, before... everything? She could ask, but she's not wasting the one answer he owes her on that. That's still something she has to decide, too.

But there's so many things she'd like to know about him. Not necessarily in the way of historical context for things or questions she's had for years. Somehow now it seems there's so much more than that. It's sort of like when she got to know Steve after he'd been her hero for so long, but it's different. It feels different. It's more complicated. He's more complicated.
