~After Sarah and John B are caught in the storm (ep 10 szn 1) and everyone thinks they are dead~
Running away felt like I could somehow keep running from the feeling of what had just happened. I could hear the sound of shoes hitting against the pavement as the blood surged to my head. Tears streamed down my face, as I made it with every effort to keep running.
My only thought was of Sarah and John B, now gone. It was so dark outside but I didn't care, all I wanted was to run away from everyone and everything that has broken my heart.
I never wanted to run away from things, but when the wind came at me, I felt like it could erase anything behind me.
Eventually, I made it to the docks near the Boneyard. I needed a break, fresh air, and some time alone.
The past two weeks have been one of the most crazy times of my life, and that's what it's like to be a Pogue. You run into trouble, and come out with memories of adventure.
The best part is doing it with your best friends.
So I went to Barry's, the place I always go to get my mind off things. Yes, I know what you're thinking. "Oh Kiara, what?" Yeah, yeah I know I know the enemy.
It's just that he's the only guy you can get your hands on some real stuff when you're on time with your money. In other words, the only guy you can rely on when you're cash strapped is him.
After feeling the immense pressure for a few minutes, I walked in dragging my feet a little.
I walked in as Barry is lounging on the couch watching television while his crack head buddies discuss nonsense. Barry was surprised when he saw me and looked up. "Haven't seen you in awhile, what, you get bored with those Pogue friends of yours?" he asked.
In no mood for conversation, I reach into my pocket and withdraw a lot of money. Barry scoffs and gets up, "Y'all always think you can just hand me money and I would kiss your feet." I roll my eyes knowing he's joking and likes the business.
Barry comes back with some hard weed and joints. "Well you don't look well. Take the harder one. You'll forget anything you've been doing for a couple days." I scoff under my breath, as if it will change anything.
"Thanks, Bare" I smirk, knowing he despises the nickname. "Shit man, I give you really great stuff, and you hit me like that?"
I shrug teasingly and put the harder joint up to my lips and blow out the smoke. "Hey, still got the key for the car?" Barry hurls the key at me and I take that as my cue.
While reversing and backing out, memories start flooding my mind. The smell of the leather interior attempts to revive memories I wanted to suppress. Or so I thought.
"If I forget a second of this moment, I don't know what I would do."
I sigh, regaining my senses, and drive off. I'm gonna be high as fuck in a minute but I don't care. I want to forget everything that has broken into me and left me with nothing.
In Kook town, I have connections and can get in and out whenever I want to. I park my car and walk in the bar without locking it. I'm welcomed by blaring club music and people grinding against each other in their own worlds.
Upon making my way to the bar, I see Colton dance around with drinks and pour different alcoholic beverages into customers' cups to their delight. I catch Colton's attention, and his smile immediately brightens.
The two of us have been friends since we were in diapers. Our parents have been friends since High School, so they have been inseparable since then. Wherever one of us goes, the other follows, which led us to Kildare County High School.
"What's up, boo Colton?" I say not sure whether I am high or not. Colton smirks, "Yeah, you're high." I shook my head, "no you." I boop his nose. Colton chuckles and walks toward me, towering over me with his tall figure.
"Join me, kie. I'll take you home." Colton says chuckling again at my pathetic state. This time, I make a snap decision and say, "No, I came here for a reason. I'm not leaving yet." As he runs his hands through his dark hair, he sighs.
"Oh come on, I'm not that high." I say as I break into twerking, gaining the attention of those around me. Colton rolls his eyes. "Please don't tell me he did something again." I finish twerking and turn to him. "What did you say?" "Nothing. Come on."
While Colton grabs my hand and leads me to the dance floor, I see Topper and some chick making out. The sight makes me want to gag because he looked so uninterested while she practically ate his face.
"What happened?" Colton asks. Not wanting to explain anything and forget everything, I turn around and dance with him. We dance together in sync with the beat of the music.
When I think my mind is in my favor, I see him stumble into the bar, blood dripping from the deep cut on his lip. Before I can look away, he locks my gaze.
