The days until New Year's eve go by way too fast and before they know it, it's already Taehyung's birthday.
The pair's friends get to know that they only kissed and nothing more. They aren't together. Their last hope is that it happens tomorrow at midnight or maybe even tonight. Little do they know that both of them planned something independently to finally take the step they're so badly looking forward to.
Taehyung enjoys all the attention he gets, being the one whose birthday it is. He receives a lot of presents and couldn't be happier to have such amazing friends. Of course they prepared a cake and some fun games to celebrate his special day. Even his parents and other relatives called to congratulate him. The day comes to an end when he lies in bed with Jeongguk. With all of his strength he holds himself back to not pop the question yet. The love of his life is snoring softly next to him. They had some alcohol and Yoongi mixed him a few drinks, probably a little too strong, which knocked the muscle bunny out within seconds after laying down. Taehyung threads his fingers through Jeongguk's long hair, smiling dreamingly. "I hope you're gonna say yes." He places a kiss on his forehead and drifts off to sleep as well.
While Taehyung wakes up happily, a plan for today in the back of his mind, Jeongguk opens his eyes with a groan. "Turn off the lights and don't move so loudly."
"Headache?" Taehyung asks, immediately fetching some painkillers from his bag and a mug full of water to give everything to the poor boy.
While Jeongguk tries to open his eyes, Taehyung closes the curtains. "Thanks, hyung. You're the best." A shy smile could be seen on Taehyung's face, but Jeongguk was too busy swallowing the pill.
They sit on the bed in comfortable silence until their stomachs begin to growl at almost the same time. They decide to eat something and wonder why no one has bothered them yet.
It's still completely dark in the entire house. Taehyung takes Jeongguk's hand on reflex as a sudden loud noise comes from the kitchen. "What was that?" He whispers startled.
"I don't know, let's take a look. Stay behind me, hyung." Jeongguk leads the way, one hand getting squeezed by an anxious Taehyung, the other is holding a random item he found on a table close to them; a candle holder, not too bad of a weapon.
Both walk slowly, making as less sound as possible on their way to the kitchen. They know that it could just be one of their hyungs, but what's weird is that the lights are turned off.
"Be careful." Taehyung is pressing his front to Jeongguk's back, looking over his shoulder in hopes to get a glimpse of whatever is in there.
Without a warning, Jeongguk turns the light on, ready to fight the person. However, they suddenly are attacked by a startled cat. The furry being leaves white paw prints behind when it runs from the kitchen to the living room after scratching Taehyung's bare foot.
"Bitch!" Taehyung shouts out in pain.
Are you alright? Do you need a bandaid?" Worried, Jeongguk kneels down to check on the small wound. "It's not too bad, but we should maybe clean it, just in case."
"Yeah, you're right, but where did the cat come from?" Taehyung asks while walking to the small washroom.
"Probably through the open window. Guess we forgot to close it overnight." Jeongguk points to the culprit and chuckles. "I'm glad you're not a raccoon or else the kitchen would have been an utter mess." Well, the cat still made a mess with the flour on the ground, and everywhere it went it was leaving the white paw prints behind.
Taehyung comes back with a bandaid on his foot. "Seokjin won't be happy."
As if calling the devil, Seokjin enters the scene. "What the hell happened here?" He claps his hands over his head, watches how Jeongguk is hunting something. "Guk, what are you do-"
"Hyung, here's the culprit. Isn't he cute?" After a quick glance below the tail, Jeongguk knows its gender.
"Cute, yes, but make him clean this." Seokjin sarcastically says and adds, "Yoongi and I wanna prepare things for tonight as soon as he gets up." He goes back to his room with a shake of his head.
Jeongguk and Taehyung feel a little responsible for this and so they begin to clean everything while trying to entertain the little fur ball. They share soft glances at each other, or gently touch here and there. It's not like they hadn't done those things before, but after the kiss it has been different. Both have yet to talk about what happened.
The cat runs out of the house as if burned as soon as Hoseok opens the door to throw the trash of his bedroom into the bins outside. He startles at the sudden movement, but when he hears giggles, he just laughs it off, too. A smirk shows up on his face before he says the following words. "Hey Guk, Tae." Hoseok has their full attention by that. "You're standing below a mistletoe."
They look at each other, then shrug before leaning in for a passionate kiss. What they didn't know was that there wasn't a mistletoe above them, or maybe they knew, but didn't care. Two days ago, all of them took the twigs off and Jeongguk, as well as Taehyung, were part of it.
Hoseok nods knowingly. This is going well and he hopes that tonight they grow some balls to finally make their relationship official. He's sure that they're already boyfriends but are waiting for a special moment to tell them.
The truth is, they really aren't. 'Soon' is what they keep telling themselves.
