It frustrated Severus beyond words that a house full of healers failed to offer any clues about what had happened to his wife.

"Is there no news for us at all?!" He hissed with a frown as healer after healer left Lily's room.

"You can't fathom any possible cause of her condition?!" He asked as the departing healers walked past him with sullen, silent frowns on their faces.

A single specialist stayed behind to help Severus, Lily, and Ginny.

The woman was tall, thin, and young.

A frown turned her lips while she regarded her patient.

"My deepest apologies, Minister Snape." The specialist replied with a polite nod at Severus and his suffering family, ".....But we can find no reason for her symptoms. We've tried every spell, elixir, charm, potion.........There seems to be no explanation for her plight in the magical side of medical science."

Ginny squeezed Lily's hand while both women frowned.

Severus sat at his wife's bedside and gnashed his teeth in refusal as he rejected the specialist's answer.

"What are we to do, then?!" He snapped, "What am I to do?!"

"It may be time to check in with the non-magical side of medical science, Minister Snape." The specialist suggested as she stared at Severus and kept her frown.

Severus scowled back at the healthcare worker in silent response.

If there was any place that he didn't want to take Lily, it was to the muggles for medical care.

Severus pushed his own wants aside in favor of satisfying his wife's needs.

Lily had to recieve help, of some sort, and Severus took it solely upon himself to see that the aid she required was obtained.

Little Albus remained in Molly and Arthur's care for the evening while Ginny drove Lily and Severus to London's best muggle hospital.

Registration proved to be a nightmare since Lily hadn't been examined by a muggle healthcare provider in over thirty years.

Eventually, after the paperwork was completed, the trio sat down in the waiting room and fidgeted anxiously while they waited for Lily's name to be called.

"Snape!" A voice chirped as a smiling nurse stepped out from behind the heavy, wooden door that led back to the patient bays.

Severus was on his feet first, followed by Ginny.

They each took one of Lily's hands and helped her gingerly walk over to answer the nurse.

"Come on back, Miss Snape! We're ready for you!" The nurse informed Lily with another bright smile.

Despite everything, Lily managed to smile back as she replied, "That's all well, I suppose, but I don't know if I'm ready for you."

Severus and Ginny spent the next three hours sitting across from each other in long pauses of awkward silence while they waited on Lily to return from her many trips of being wheeled out of the room they had been placed in and spun through machine after machine.

Severus wondered to himself how many contraptions muggles used to heal someone?

How many machines did they possibly need?
