Chapter 7: Maya

"Everything just feels so different after last night. I couldn't stand her when I first met her. Everything she would say would irritate me, and I don't know what changed but last night I couldn't help but smile at the same antics of hers that would normally annoy me."

"Oh you two are SO about to date," Vic and Travis say.

"Do you feel anything for her?" Andy asks concerned.

"There's a spark there for sure. I mean that kiss, I don't think I've ever felt that way while kissing someone."

"Okay so you're just physically attracted to her?" Travis asks.

"No," I shoot down the idea as if it's the most absurd thing I've heard, and my reaction makes me realize this is definitely something more. "Guys, I don't know what this means." I sit down with my head in my hands.

"I think it means you have feelings for someone for the first time," Andy says placing a hand on my shoulder. I can't remember the last time I liked anyone. Maybe that girl from high school, but I remember how my dad explained to me that those feelings were a weakness. I didn't get to become a captain by being emotional. I didn't achieve anything in life by dating others. My no relationship policy is what got me here today, and I have my dad to thank for that.

"No I don't," I say. I see them all make a face to each other, but I decide to ignore it. I look at the time and see that it's 12pm so I should head on over to the hospital for Carina's lunch break. "I have to go."

"Are you going back home?" Vic asks.

"No, I have to pick up my blazer from Carina," I reply.

"You need to what now?" Travis asks. Okay so maybe I left the part out where I got Carina a rose in her favorite color and gave her my blazer when she was cold. I knew they would all make a big deal out of it.

"She was cold so I gave her my blazer. No big deal," I say. I see Vic and Travis smirk at each other. "I'm done. I'm going. I need to stop coming here on my days off," I yell as I leave.

"You love us!" Travis and Vic yell from behind.

"Wait Maya, what are you going to say about the kiss?" Andy yells as she runs catching up to me.

"I don't plan on even addressing it," I admit.

"Have you considered that maybe Carina might be picking up on the fact that you might like her, and that she may have feelings for you too? If you don't want to take this forward, maybe try not to do cute stuff for her and lead her on?" Andy raises a good point.

"I didn't ask for this much stress when I agreed to this plan," I whine. "Fine I won't do anything."

Maya: Hey I'm coming by to your office in 15 minutes

I get to the hospital and Carina still hasn't responded. Maybe she's in surgery or something. I walk into the hospital and make my way to her office. The door is locked and the lights are off.

"Are you looking for Carina?" A woman in blue scrubs with a white coat on asks me. I look at the name on her coat, Dr. Teddy Altman, and realize this is Carina's friend who is pregnant and is dating Owen.

"Hi! Yes I am." I find the need to be on her good side knowing she's Carina's friend.

"She called in sick today. Down with a cold or something." Of course she's sick. She wore a skirt and a small blouse in cold weather. I shake my head annoyed.

"Oh, thanks for letting me know! I'm Maya Bishop by the way." I extend my hand as I introduce myself. I see a change in her mood when she hears my name.
