Chapter 3: Maya

I look at the name in my phone and remember what Andy was talking about earlier in the day. As Carina closes her tab and leaves, I can't help but notice how hot the way she talks, carries herself, and looks is. I try not to focus too much on this as I look back at the girl across the bar.

I wake up the next morning and find a text from Mason.

Mason: How did it go?

Okay, let the lies begin.

Maya: Great! I think we are going to be going on our second date soon.

Mason: Get out. I don't believe this.

Maya: I hate to admit it, but you were right. I think we'll be great together.

Mason: I'm so glad you said that because Andrew told me that Carina feels the same.

Maya: Yeah? What did she say?

Mason: Just that she wants to see you again and that you have very pretty eyes (ew pda)

As much as I try not to, I can't help but smile at that. I remembered how Carina mentioned my eyes when she was being sarcastic. Maybe there was some truth to it.

I get to the station even though it's my day off so I can talk to Vic and Andy. Right when Andy sees me her eyes expand knowing she's going to get a rundown of last night.

"VIC," she yells so we can all talk. Vic comes quickly with Travis.

"Spill the tea," Travis says making everyone laugh. "It's what all the kids say these days."

"Okay so I went on that date last night. Guess who it was?" Everyone looked at me blankly having no idea.

"Remember the doctor I got into a fight with yesterday?"

"WHAT?" Vic yells.

"Carina?" Andy asks shocked.

"Yes, Dr. Carina DeLuca," I say her name imitating the way she said it before leaving.

"Sooo how did it go?" Travis asks as if he's watching a horror movie unfold.

"As you can imagine, horrible."

"Really? I thought I sensed some sexual tension when you two were arguing," Vic says making everyone laugh.

"Yeah and she's totally your type, Maya," Andy adds.

"I know but she's just so frustrating. I told her about the whole ordeal with my parents and the holidays and she laughed at me."

"Yeah, Andy filled us in on your plan. It's good in theory," Travis says.

"Yeah, don't worry we can find someone else for you to fake date."

"You won't have to. Carina agreed." Now everyone looks like they can't comprehend what I just said so I fill them in on everything from the previous night.

"So you didn't know the girl's name you're in a fake relationship with until the end of the date and then went on to sleep with another woman at the end of the night?" Andy asks as if it was the most absurd thing she had ever heard. I simply nod and think about how I need to call Carina.

"This sounds so messy I'm loving it," Vic smiles. "When are you going to call her?"

"Let me text her now."

Maya: Hey it's Maya. When can I give you a call?

Carina: I have a lunch break in two hours. Can you actually stop by at the hospital?
