"Hey, so why were you late?" Chrissy Beppo asked Lois when she entered the office later on that morning.
"Sorry, Clark had something come up and he needed me to drop the boys off at school." Lois said.
"What was it?" Chrissy asked.
"Just family stuff. But anyways, have you made any progress in our secret project?" Lois asked.
"You mean our year-long investigation into the jackass who fired you from the Daily Planet, not anymore than we made yesterday. Lois, we have been investigating this for a year. Are you sure there's a story?" Chrissy asked.
"My instinct is telling me that Edge is up to something and it's on us to figure it out." Lois said.
"Maybe you could bring your superstar reporter husband in on this?" Chrissy asked.
"No, I don't want to bring anyone else into this until we have some idea of what he's up to. Especially since it looks like he's starting to set down roots here in Smallville." Lois said.
"You say that like it's a bad thing?" Chrissy said.
"Look, follow the trail of every other town he's ever had business in and it's ended in ruin. I'm not going to let him do that to Smallville. This town made Clark the man he is today and it meant the world to his mom. I won't let the only thing she loved as much as her son be destroyed." Lois said.
"I think she loved Clark the most, but the town was a close second." Chrissy said.
"True. But anyways, I know that Edge would not be coming to Smallville without a reason. We just need to figure out what it is." Lois said.
"Well, in the meantime, there are other things we need to cover, such as the current mayoral election. Especially since this year, Mayor Dean is going up against an old friend of yours, Lana Lang." Chrissy said.
"Yeah, Lana was actually hoping we'd sponsor her campaign and I told her that while we'd love to, the Gazette doesn't really have the resources for it. However, I do want her to win and knock that smug bastard Dean down a peg or two." Lois said.
"Whoa, down girl. Remember, you're pregnant. Don't make me give you early maternity leave just to get you to relax." Chrissy said.
"God, I wish Clark and I had decided to keep this a secret until I started showing." Lois said.
"Lois, you suddenly stopped drinking wine out of nowhere. You really think people weren't going to notice that?" Chrissy asked.
"Fair point. But anyways, based on the recent polls, I think Lana's got a decent shot at winning, since she is a single mother raising two daughters, she's very well known in this town, not to mention she's got Martha Kent's son supporting her." Lois said.
"But at the same time, that single mother thing could be used against her, since let's not forget why she and Kyle got divorced." Chrissy said.
"That was his fault and the whole town knows it and I'm fully prepared to go kick Kyle's ass if he tries to support Dean." Lois said.
"Considering the fact that he's still trying to get Lana to take him back even though it's been 2 years, I doubt he'd do something like that. Hell, I hear he's been very active in her campaign." Chrissy said.
"Like he really thinks that'll make up for cheating on her. God, I thought he was a decent man, Clark always spoke so highly of him from when they were growing up." Lois said.
"Which must've been hard since Lana is his ex. Though if you think about it, if Clark had married Lana, she'd have this thing in the bag since she'd be Martha Kent's daughter-in-law." Chrissy said.
"Very funny. But seriously, I think that while Kyle has a decent side to him, I don't think that Lana is going to take him back." Lois said.
"You know how stubborn that man is." Chrissy said.
"Yeah, better than most. He still doesn't like me because I'm not from here." Lois said, right as her phone buzzed.
"What's that?" Chrissy asked.
"Message from one of my sources, it looks like Morgan Edge just made a very generous donation to Mayor Dean's campaign fund. Sounds like he wants Dean to win." Lois said.
"Which means that there's clearly something going on there. I think that these two stories just became related." Chrissy said and Lois nodded her head in agreement.
"That makes it even more important that Lana wins, though considering the major boost in funding that Dean just got, that'll be hard." Lois said.
"We'll figure something out, but first, we need to make her aware of this." Chrissy said and Lois nodded in agreement.
