Nick pays a visit (12)

Tony's POV:

After freshening up and wearing some new clothes. I went out and saw Capsicle chopping some wood. I decided to go and help.

'Thor didn't say where he was. going for answers?' I asked as I chopped a log of wood in half. 

'Sometimes my teammates don't tell me things, I was kinda hoping that Thor would've been the exception.'

'Yeah. Give him time. We don't know what the Maximoff kid showed him.' I said.

''Earth's Mightiest Heroes' pulled us apart like cotton candy.' He said.

'Seems like you walked away all right.' I said.

'Is that a problem?' He asked. 

'I just don't trust a guy without a dark side. Call me old fashioned.' I said.

'Well, let's just say you haven't seen it yet.' he said.

'You know Ultron is trying to tear us apart right?' I asked. 

'Well, I guess you'd know. weather you'd tell us is a bit of a question.'

'Banner and I were doing research.'

'That would affect the team.'

'That would end the team. Isn't that the mission? Isn't that the 'why' we fight, so we can end the fight so we get to go home!' I said my voice raising at the end. He ripped a piece of log in half with anger.

'Every time someone tries to win a war before it starts, innocent people die. Every time.' He said. 

'Okay.' I said, raising my hands up. I didn't have the energy to deal with anything right now.

'What's going on with Mia?' I asked after some time.

'What do you mean?' He asked.

'She seemed really shaken, I don't think it's just because of Hulk.' I said.

'Well, considering you doubted her would've made a difference.' He said.

'What do her parents think about this? Do they even know where she is?' i asked. 

'Tony, seriously, just stop.' He said.

'You seem to know something I don't. What is it?' I asked.

'God Tony! Her parents are dead.' He said and my eyes widened.

'Okay, I'm going to stop you right there before you tell my life story to him.' Came another voice, I looked behind Steve and Mia was coming towards us.

'Mia, I'm sor-' Steve started to say but she held her hand up.

'Okay. it was in the heat of the moment. I get it, don't make that mistake again.' She said, looking angry but trying to keep it at bay.

'Mia, I didn-' I started to say but she interrupted me as well.

'I don't care. Now you do.' She said and started to walk in the forest.

'Where are you going?' Steve asked.

'To get some air. I'll be back by dinner.' She said, not turning back and walked into the forest.

'I'm sorry. Uh, Mr. Stark, Clint said you wouldn't mind, but our tractor doesn't seem to want to start at all.' Laura said, coming to us.

'Yeah, I'll have a look at it.' I said and walked towards the barn. It was filled with archery stuff, expected and the tractor was inside.

'Hello, dear. Tell me everything. What ails you.' I said fidgeting with it.

'Do me a favour. Try not to bring it to life.' A heard a voice. Damn that voice, I'd recognise it anywhere.

'Ah, Mrs. Barton, you little minx.' I muttered 

'I get it. Maria Hill called you right? Was she ever not working for you?' I asked. 

'Artificial Intelligence, you never even hesitated.'

'Look, it's been a really long day. Can we skip this and get to the part where you're actually useful?' I said.

Mia's POV:

'To get some air. I'll be back by dinner.' I said as I walked towards the forest. I've always liked the nature, something about it makes me calm down. I went into the woods and sat at a place where I found an open spot. It was perfect. Trees surrounded me and there was a stream nearby. I laid down on the grass and let my super solider senses take over. I heard the water flowing from the stream, the birds chirping their sweet melody, the leaves rustling with the wind, the trees swaying slightly to the wind and the sun on my face. Everything was amazing. I don't know how long I stayed there but when I got up, the sun was setting and the air was getting colder.

Well, that was good while it lasted.

Tony's POV:

After my entire talk with Nick, we went back in the house. Everyone was there except Mia.

'Where's Mia?' Nick asked.

'A walk in the forest. She said she'd be back now.' Steve said and Nick nodded. 

'Ultron took you folks out of play to buy himself some time. My contacts all say that he's building something.' Nick said. Lila had made a drawing she was showing Nat.

'With the amount of Vibranium he took I don't think that it's just one thing.' He continued. 

'What about Ultron himself?' Steve asked.

'That's easy, he's everywhere. Guy's multiplying faster than a Catholic rabbit. Still doesn't get any angles on any of his plans though.' Nick said.

'Is he still going for launch codes?' I asked.

'Yes, he is. He's not making any headway.' Nick said, cutting something.

'I cracked the Pentagon's firewall in high school on a dare.' I said.

'Yeah well, I contacted our friends at NEXUS about that.' Nick said but got interrupted.

'NEXUS?' Steve asked.

'It's the world internet hud in Oslo, every byte of data flows through there. Fastest access on Earth.' A new voice came. I turned around and saw Mia, standing at the doorway with her hands crossed.

'When did you get here?' I asked.

'Since you were boasting about cracking the firewall.' She said, washing her hands.

'I could hear you since Nick asked me where I was though.' She said, wiping them off.

'How...?' I asked, trailing off, she just shrugged.

'So what'd they say?' Clint asked Nick. 

'He's fixated on the missiles. But the codes are constantly being changed.'

'By whom?' I asked, just then a dart flew past me and landed on the bullseye of the board. I just looked at Clint like, 'Really?'. He just shrugged.

'Parties unknown.'

'Do we have an ally?' Nat asked.

'Ultron's got an enemy. That's not the same thing. Still, I'd pay folding money to know who it is.' Nick said. 

'I might need to visit Oslo. Find our 'unknown'' I said.

'Well this is good times, boss, but I was kinda hoping when I heard you, you'd have more than that.' Mia said.  

'I do. I have you.' He said and Mia sighed.

'Back in the day, I had eyes everywhere, ears everywhere else. You kids had all the tech you could dream of. Here we all are, back to Earth, nothing but out with and our will to save the world. Ultron says the Avengers are the only thing between him and his mission. Whether or not he admits it, that mission, is global destruction. All this, laid in a grave.' he said, gesturing to his surroundings.

'So stand. Outwit the platinum bastard.' He said.

'Steve doesn't like that kind of talk.' Nat said smirking. 

'You know what Romanoff?' he asked.
