A New Start

Chapter 27

You and Steve made your way to the communications room but by the time you both got there, everyone else was already seated. You didn't even look in Bucky's direction as he was seated in-between Sam and Clint, but you felt his eyes on you. You sat next to Vision and Wanda at the opposite end of the room looking down at your hands in your lap. 

"What's going on F.R.I.D.A.Y.?" Steve asked. 

"Mr. Stark wants everyone to be ready tomorrow morning to go on a tour of the new headquarters building" F.R.I.D.A.Y. announced.

Tony appeared on a monitor at the front of the room. 

"Hi kids, there's a new headquarters building I funded, and I promised some of the agents here that you would all come by and see it" he looked at everyone. 

Great. Not only do I have to put on a happy face tomorrow at headquarters, but I also get to see Bucky in action and ask Lea out.

You know she'll be there with her short skirt, ridiculously high heels that were highly impractical, and her cute frilly top you thought to yourself. Could this day get any worse? 

"What time do you need us there?" Bruce asked. 

"I will have vehicles come by the compound at 9am to get everyone"

His screen went blank, and everyone was left staring at each other.

"We've never needed to go to a new building before" Nat said while looking at Steve. 

"I know"

Everyone got up and went on their separate ways. You saw Bucky get up from the table, he turned to look at you, but then walked away. He was headed in the direction of the gym, so you went to the elevator to your room. You spent the rest of your day in your room, away from the group as you needed time alone with your thoughts.

Every so often, you heard the door across the hall from you open and close, but you never went to look, or see what was going on. You had thought of playing some card games with Sam as he texted you to see if you wanted to, but you declined. You just wanted this day over with. You grabbed a quick dinner after everyone else ate as you wanted to avoid them for as long as possible. You didn't feel like putting on a happy face in front of everyone, so you headed up to your room and jumped into your bed. You threw on an old movie and drifted off to sleep.

The next morning came quickly. You were surprised you were able to sleep most of the night without waking up and thinking about things. You jumped into the shower and put on your basic tactical gear. Whenever the group was altogether but not on a mission, you were expected to dress accordingly. 

As you opened your door, the door across the hall from you opened as well. You stared at Bucky while he stared back at you. 

"Good morning" you said abruptly to him. 

"Hi" was his cold reply. 

You both walked to the elevator and got in. The ride down felt like it was an hour long. Both of you started straight ahead and didn't say anything to each other. When the doors opened, Bucky pushed out of the door and headed out the door to one of the waiting vans. You got into the other van and the group proceeded to the new headquarters building.

When you arrived, the new building was quite expansive. It was 10 floors and had state of the art tech in it that even you were amazed by. The agents were there waiting to greet the team as Tony and Pepper were the first to shake their hands. 

"The place looks amazing" Wanda said to you as you were both walking through the lobby. 

"Seems like Stark outdid himself this time" you said while looking all around.
