Chapter 14: Annie Leonhart

The survey corps were able to get away from the horde of titans that was chasing for them. They first retreated to a safer place where there are no titans around to plan their safe route back to the wall.

Dieter, the man who tried to retrieved his friend's body is just standing and looking down with his gloomy expression. He didn't only lose his friend's dead body but also his other friend who joined him.

"As soon as we know where we are, we will depart. Stay alert!"

"We'll have to slightly alter our route to the east..."

Levi who's on his horse made his way towards Dieter. Dieter heard the galloping of Levi's horse, so he turned around to look at  Levi. The raven-hair captain hopped off from his horse. "Captain Levi..." Dieter said.

His eyes wide a bit. "I..." Dieter looked down and shut his eyes.

Levi took out something from his pocket then he walked towards Dieter. He stopped right in front of him. Dieter looked at Levi with his eyes widened a bit. Levi only looked at him with his dull expression.

"This proves that they were alive. To me, at least." Levi said and put something on Dieter's hand.

Dieter looked down, his eyes widened when he saw a survey corps patch.

"This was Ivan's." Levi said.

Dieter's eyes became watery because of tears, his hands started trembling while holding Ivan's patch.

It's not too long when Dieter started to break down. "Captain..." He muttered while sobbing.

Levi looked at Dieter for a few moments. Then he looked away and walked towards his horse and hopped on it. Levi left Dieter alone.

"We're leaving!"

The survey corps made it back to Karanese district. All of them looking gloomy because of the heavy losses they gained and for coming back with nothing at all. The citizens are on the side and are just watching the survey corps while murmurring things.

"Aren't there fewer than there were this morning?"

"Man...far fewer."

"Another disaster."

"Just this morning, they left raising a ruckus, but they're already back? What was the point?"

"Who knows? But judging by the gloomy expressions, they managed to waste more of our taxes, if nothing else."

Y/N who's walking beside her horse gritted her teeth and looked at the citizens who were spouting insults to them. Levi is beside her who's also walking beside his horse.

But she stiffened on her place when she saw the two kids earlier who smiled at her before they left the wall.

The little girl looks confused while the young boy is smiling widely.

"So cool! The survey corps id awesome!" The young boy said.

He looked at his sister. "They got the crap kicked out of them, and they still fight!" He happily said.

Y/N's eyes became glossy. She looked down and just ignored the murmurs of the citizens and even the two kids.

Thankfully, her hair is not tied and it's covering her face so no one can see her tearing up. "Captain Levi! Captain Luciana!" Luciana's eyes widened when an old man called them.

The two continued walking but the old man catched up with them.

"My daughter is in your squad...I'm Petra's father." Petra's father is smiling happily to Levi and Luciana who just looks dull and quiet.
