Light Up The Darkness

Four Years Later

New York city was deserted, bare, empty without busy traffic and pedestrians walking. One when living there would think that would be their greatest wish, not for Sam.

Sam was in a red striped mustang drives around the empty New York, the roads and side walk have growing grass, the buildings growing vines, cars abandoned, this was not the city Sam wanted. As he drives he has the passenger side window rolled down for the German Shepherd sitting beside him. The dog keeping a look out for anything moving.

"What did you see, what did you see?" Sam asks his dog when he hears him start barking when he makes a right turn. A heard of deer come running out from between two buildings, scaring Sam and making him step on the breaks.

"Damn. Let's go Cap." He tells the dog sitting next to him as he follows the deer down the street. There where so many running around the car, one would think they where in a forest. Sam pulls out his snipe rifle and sets it out on the window aiming at one of the deers. Sam knew how to skin and cook a deer, you have to adapt to the changing world around you. Before he could pull the trigger the deers go through a underground tunnel, making Sam miss his shot.

"Come on." He says as he sees the deer come out of the tunnel and run towards the abandoned time square. He had to stop since so many abandoned cars blocked the way. He grabs his gun and pack before letting his dog Cap of the car. As Cap leads ahead Sam follows keeping a close eye out on his surroundings and the time.

When they find the deer they followed, he was eating the grass nearby a parked car. Sam brings up his gun and aims it at the deer, he breathes in and out, before he can pull the trigger a lioness attacks the deer. Sam slowly puts down the gun as he keeps watching the lioness bring down her pray. A lion with a cub following him come out into the open walking towards his mate. Sam takes a deep breath as he watch the pride of lions eat their meal together without a care of Sam's presence. He turns away walking towards his car.

"Come on Cap, lets go." He calls his dog as Cap comes running up to Sam, following him. Sam and Cap leave back to the house. When Sam parks the car, he takes of a bottle of oxide and walks up the steps to the door spraying the oxide all around the steps to hide his smell from the others. Sam and Cap enter the house as Cap runs off to the couch and lays down looking at his master. Sam puts his gun and bag in the cabinet beside the door then walks to the kitchen to start on dinner.

"Here you go, just the way you like it. Disgusting." Sam says as he puts ketchup all over the veggies and white rice, he then sets it on the floor beside the table where he sits. Cap comes running towards the plate and sniffs it before looking up at Sam who just sat down at the table.

"Eat your vegetables. Don't just push them around. Eat them, I am not playing OK. You're gonna eat your vegetables." Sam sternly tells him like a child. Cap just moves around the food before eating the rest. Sam sighs as he looks down and sees what he did.

"I'm gonna sit down here all night if you don't eat them." Sam says as he eats his dinner plate.

"What are you whining about? Why didn't you just eat your vegetables?" Sam asks Cap as he's giving him a bath. The window to the bathroom was open to let the breeze in, you could also see the sun beginning to set into a very nice orange hue.

"Alright, here's a deal. Look, you're gonna eat twice as many vegetables tomorrow night. Alright?" Sam picks up his dogs head to look at him in the eyes. He turns around to press play on the iPod and Bob Marley's Three little birds plays.

"Deal? Deal?" He turns back towards Cap as he turns on the faucet and rinses the soap off, all the while Sam hums along to the music.

"That feels good. Argh, Cap!" Sam yells as the dog shakes off the water, Sam covering his face. A memory comes into Sam's mind as he zones out.
