[Jungwon]

"The Southerners are arriving in three days."

Jungwon feels Sunghoon stiffening from where he's perched and plastered on Jungwon's side and he immediately looks up to the older in curiosity before he can think about it. Sunghoon looks like he's been doused in cold water. There's a split second where he looks to be surprised and in disbelief before melting into a neutral expression. It's a look that Jungwon often sees on the mirrors.

Too often.

The fingers that are tangled on the hair on the back of Jungwon's head loosen considerably until they slide all the way to his nape instead. He jolts at the sudden cold and clammy hand on his skin.

There's a short silence—a pause—and then Sunghoon picks up a piece of biscuit from Jungwon's plate and brings it to his mouth, munching. It's an indication that he doesn't want to talk or comment about what Jay has said. An act of dismissal.

Jungwon looks away from the older just in time to see Heeseung's warning glare to Jay and the latter responding with a flinch. Jake eyes his friends meaningfully, clears his throat loudly, and then starts talking about the ongoing week-long festival that the Palace has thrown in honor of the Easternerns, his voice a tad bit high-pitched.

What's with the Southerners?

Jungwon replays Jay's face in his mind as he talks about the Southerners arrival and then Sunghoon's response. Jay looks too serious when he said and it felt like he just dropped a bomb. Sunghoon seemed disarmed about it for a second before he closed off and ignored the statement altogether. Heeseung's glare towards Jay and then Jay wincing apologetically in return. Jungwon also caught Prince Ni-ki's surprised face on the side, hand slowing down on polishing his dagger until he eventually stopped. He did continue though when Jake started talking about the festival.

And then there's the cold and clammy hand on the back of his neck. It's an involuntary reaction. Jungwon usually gets like that when he's dreading something.

So is Sunghoon dreading the arrival of the Southerner—

"Doll, can you stand up for a second?"

Jungwon blinks at the sudden voice cutting through his thoughts and turns to Sunghoon once again. The older squeezes his nape lightly as if encouraging him to follow through with his request. Jungwon resists the urge to roll his eyes and stands up. He would've given the older more shit if the servants and the guards weren't present. As it is, he can't antagonize Sunghoon just yet. He'll just have to hold his thoughts about the older and the Southerners for now.

Jungwon doesn't know what he's expecting when he does stand up but it's definitely not Sunghoon taking his chair. He glares down at the older and his childish antics.

"Really," Jungwon drawls. "You couldn't have requested for your own chair?"

"Calm down, love. If I did, I wouldn't be able to hold you."

Jungwon frowns. What.

"What?"

Jungwon barely stops himself from letting out a yelp when Sunghoon pulls him down by his hips. In a split second, he's on the older's lap. Sunghoon immediately slips his arms around Jungwon with one hand reaching for the plate of biscuits.

The younger is stunned and wide-eyed. His feet doesn't even reach the ground and his back is flushed against the Crown Prince's chest. The latter has even hooked his chin over Jungwon's shoulder.

Jungwon is frozen for a couple of seconds before he turns to Sunghoon, pissed off and frustrated. Embarrassment has already pooled beneath his cheeks and he refuses to speak even though he's seething. He's afraid his voice will come out higher and so he settles with glaring at the older.
